An Interview with Tim Keller

CT’s Sarah Pulliam Bailey interviews Tim Keller about his new book, Counterfeit Gods: The Empty Promises of Money, Sex, and Power, and the Only Hope that Matterscounterfeit, which is currently in the top 200 of all books at Amazon.

(The book is available from WTS Books and Monergism Books for 40% off; WTS Books is also selling 12-packs for 45% off.)

Here are the questions that Keller answers in the interview:

  • How should Christians think of money, sex, and power?
  • What makes these three so enticing and difficult to control?
  • Do Christians have blind spots when it comes to false gods?
  • How does someone identify their idols?
  • How do we get rid of idols?
  • Is it necessary to suffer disappointment before seeing that idols don’t satisfy?

Here’s the answer to the last question, “What’s your next project?”

A book on suffering, which I’m hoping will be out next November. I’m planning to draw more on being a pastor than being an apologist. I’m trying to write a book every year during this last part of my career.

Here’s a short YouTube clip of Keller explaining the purpose of, and premise behind, the book:

  1. Tim Keller has such a gentle way of speaking with authroity.

This should be an edifying book. Hope I get a chance to read it.
