Darrin Patrick: How Nehemiah Finished Well

Darrin Patrick (pastor of The Journey in St. Louis, and VP of Acts29) gave a talk at the a29 Boot Camp in San Diego (May 6, 2009) that contains a lot of wisdom. The audience is potential church planters, but I think it’s applicable to people at all levels of ministry leadership–especially if you’re tempted (like I am) with the feeling of Overwhelm.

Every month for the past two years Darrin has received a phone call about another pastor who has had a failure in the ministry (morally, financially, etc.). So he looks at how Nehemiah persevered, being faithful and strong to the end.

He argues that Nehemiah persevered because he was not:

  • deceived about his role
  • depressed about his work
  • distracted by his enemies
  • destroyed by his suffering
