Michael Oher: All-American Adoption

Amy Henry pens the cover story for this week’s World Magazine on Michael Oher. Here’s the summary:

All-American Michael Oher went from the streets as a 15-year-old son of a crack addict to potential NFL Rookie of the Year on the love and dedication of an adoptive family that wouldn’t let him fail. The movie that tells their story hits theaters in time for National Adoption Day—and recognition that about 130,000 Michael Ohers are waiting for a family to adopt them.

You can also read the book The Blind Side by Michael Lewis, or watch the trailer for the new film at the official site.

Here’s a feature on the real folks:

  1. Great story. It’s nice to have him here in Baltimore as a Raven. He plays with great intensity, let me tell you.

  2. I had the chance to see a screening of the movie the other night. It had a lot of very funny moments (the diehard SEC fans will enjoy seeing several former and current coaches having to act), but the message for the difference adoption can make for a child (even a much older one) came through very clear. Very challenging in that regard.
