  1. I am a student at Southern and watched this sermon live in chapel today. Without question this was the best, most sobering and encouraging sermon I have ever heard.

  2. Anybody else having trouble streaming this? It buffers about every 5 seconds for me……

  3. Not working for me either…

  4. [...] Chandler, in his chapel address, quoted the following from Eugene Peterson’s Working the Angles: The Shape of Pastoral [...]

  5. What I am doing is letting it play with the sound muted in a window on the side. Once it is completed I can then replay and it will play with no interruption.

  6. This isn’t technically a streaming video… it downloads to your computer before it plays. If you’re having trouble with it stuttering, pause the video and let the download get ahead of the point you’re watching. It should play fine then.

Note if you’re not on a fast connection or if the server is being hit pretty hard, it may download slowly enough that the playhead will catch up with the download, causing it to stutter again. Pause it again and let the download get ahead of you again.

You can also just wait for the entire thing to download before you watch, or download the file itself from http://www.sbts.edu/media/video/chapel/fall-2009/20091112chandler-message.flv

  7. SBTS’s bandwidth is slammed, and they are putting it up on YouTube. I’ll update the link ASAP.

  8. To everyone who has visited our site to watch Matt Chandler’s sermon, please know that we are working quickly to correct this by adding the video to another platform.

Matt’s sermon was timely and powerful and I encourage everyone to watch it. I apologize for the delay on our end.

    Stay tuned for updates.

  10. Forgive my ignorance, but why does Chandler talk as if Roman Catholicism has contributed significantly to the gospel?

  11. [...] Why I love Matt Chandler. (From a message this morning to Southern Seminary.) [...]

  12. Great message. At about 27:18 I felt strongly convicted, “He’s fine with that” especially after the stuff I posted about Rick Warren on this site. Thank you for that Pastor Matt.

  13. For Curious, I think what Chandler was saying is that in every generation the Lord keeps his church going through different people. And his word is spread by different means. The Lord sometimes even uses people whose theology is not sound to accomplish his own purposes. Chandlers comments are certainly not an endorsement of Roman Catholicism and their false doctrines.

  14. Great, thanks Victor. Thats helpful. Thank you for addressing my question w/ kindness and cordiality.

  15. Sharp, concise exhortation and preaching to seminary students.

Curious for any SBTS students, is it normal for people not to clap when a chapel speaker is finished? Or were they just stunned?

  16. They never clap. Chandler was good today in chapel, but if you didn’t here Tony Rose from Tuesday’s SBTS Chapel you should.

  17. I’m a student at sbts and it was by far one of the best sermons of the year.

For all of you having trouble watching the video it is not a stream, but our server bandwidth was getting hit hard, earlier we were getting hundreds of hits a minute for the video alone. Hopeful things should slow down soon.

  18. I’ve never heard anyone clap in chapel at Southern, except maybe for David Platt…I mean come on…he recited Romans on the spot from memory…come to think of it…I don’t think anyone clapped for him either. Praise God for Chandler’s message!

  19. [...] Chandler spoke at my alma mater this week (yes SBTS alumni, class of ‘84 and more). You can watch the message here, but one of the Thinklings excerpted part of Chandler’s message and the words were very [...]

  20. Its almost scary how gifted Chandler is for how young he is.
