charles-wesleyOn this day in history, 1707, Charles Wesley was born–the 18th of Samuel and Susanna Wesley’s 19 children (John was the 15th). Charles would go on to become a leader of Methodism and the author of some 6,000 hymns. (For a good analysis of the quality and value of Wesley’s hymnody, see this 1932 essay by Bernard Manning.)
