Young will deny that he is a universalist. So people may bring that up if you charge him with it.

In all honesty though, he is a practicing universalist. He just says that we don't know if God is going to save everybody or not. But for all intents and purposes, as soon as you believe, "God might save everybody" you are not going to push yourself or anyone else to proclaim the gospel. Your default position will be, "God will save them in the end." Hence, you are a practicing universalist.

Regarding Sanders' review:

-Be careful what books you read, for as water tastes of the soil it runs through, so does the soul taste of the authors that a man reads. -- John Trapp

"..fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

I forgot the Scripture verse That quote reminded me of.

“Afraid?” murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love. “Afraid? of Him? O, never, never. And yet — and yet — O Mole, I am afraid.” From Tim Keller's

I love that.

Young is a universalists, I'm pretty sure. He basically feels, and says that God loves everyone more than anything, and sin is not that big of a deal to God, and hell is just a way to perk a soul just a bit in the right direction. It's gentler and nicer Christianity, and a sloppy agape, and mushy kingdom of God.

Mohler references in his article that The Shack has now passed 10 million books sold--perhaps that is the reason for the recent spate of reviews?

"We need not fear books -- we must be ready to answer them. We desperately need a theological recovery that can only come from practicing biblical discernment. This will require us to identify the doctrinal dangers of The Shack, to be sure. But our real task is to reacquaint evangelicals with the Bible's teachings on these very questions and to foster a doctrinal rearmament of Christian believers." This was well stated and is my response to those writings that contradict the Bible.
