Two new articles, worth reading together:

Writing for the Gospel Coalition Gene Veith responds to the argument by David Brooks that Christians cannot be professional athletes, since the pursuit of glory and the struggle of competition are incompatible with selfless humility required by serving the Lord. Veith frames his discussion in the larger context of the Reformation doctrine of vocation, also looking at the more difficult issue of whether or not Christians can serve in the military.

Writing at the Desiring God blog, Matt Reagan offers seven reflections on athletic achievement from a biblical perspective, along with two biblical observations on Christians in competitive sports.
