Great article; thanks for the post. If this is patriotism, I definitely agree that it’s a good thing. The article clarifies what patriotism can and (I would think) should be.
Sadly we often meet (in self and others) a mixture of patriotism, jingoism, ethnocentrism and xenophobia. (E.g., on the lips of someone who never left the country, or, worse, on the lips of someone who has often done so: “America is the best nation in the world!”)
What many call patriotism is often just pride: instead of “I’m superior,” it’s “We’re superior.” Pride in the hearts of the many isn’t any prettier than in the heart of one.
