Prayer Request (with update)

Some of you may have heard of the bus crash near Seoul, South Korea which has left 12 dead and several others injured. A pastor friend of mine from the Boston area tells me that Dr. Gary Parrett of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary is among those seriously injured. Dr. Parrett, the author of several books, was one of my professors of GCTS. He is well-respected and well-liked by all who know him. Please pray for Dr. Parrett and his family in their time of great need.

UPDATE

My friend sent me this from Pastor Dave Swaim of High Rock Covenant Church in Arlington, MA.

Dear Church,

Pastor Gary’s daughter, Alisa, emailed me to give me an update on how he is.

“Right now, he is in a coma but his vital signs are stable, and he is suffering from some broken bones, lung damage and some brain hemorrhage. They don’t expect that he will come out of the coma for about 2-3 weeks. He is going to be moved to another hospital in Seoul tomorrow to be treated by one of the best neurologists in the country, who is a Christian and an elder at the church where my aunt pastors and my father has spoken several times. My mom and I will be flying out to Korea on Monday to be with my dad. I’ll be staying there until I go back to school, and my mom will be staying until it’s safe for my dad to travel, which won’t be for several months at least.”

Many of us – especially us on staff, have been profoundly affected by this news. Pastor Kenny was the best man at Pastor Eugene and Alice’s wedding, so his grief is especially keen.

Please pray for Gary, Alisa and Holly. Kenny’s parents and sister will also need God’s presence and comforting power to help them.

Maranatha,
Dave
