I must be getting old because I find myself pining for the good ole days when television was funnier, nicer, and cleaner. Besides watching cartoons with my kids and some sports, about the only thing I like to watch is a good rerun of the Cosby Show. Now that was some funny stuff.

I didn’t know it at the time, but it was also revolutionary–a popular show about a successful black family, conservative in their values and also proud of their African-American tradition. The show was an implicit commercial for diversity, but also for the value of education, hard work, and moral integrity. And above all, it was, and still is, very funny.

Enjoy these bloopers from Season 2.

If you want to have some fun and take away from your productivity at work, visit www.xtranormal.com. The site allows you to make movies just by typing and dragging.

Here are a couple examples I found on youtube. The first is called Calvinist Witnessing (it’s a caricature for sure, but let’s be able to laugh at ourselves, and hope that none of us are actually like this). The second is called Arminian Witnessing (also a caricature no doubt, but pretty funny).

While listening to a young lady sing “I Can Only Imagine” in church yesterday, I couldn’t help but think of this. Once you listen to it, you too can think of margarine during special music numbers.

And just in case you haven’t seen this classic from Tim Hawkins…

I went to the Dentist at the beginning of June. He said I had a cavity (two of them) and needed a crown (not the heavenly kind). So I went back two weeks later to get the temporary crown. The thing is basically aluminum foil glued to your tooth. It started falling apart. So I have to go back today to get it fixed. Then next week, two fillings and the permanent tooth-colored crown.

At least there will always be this to cheer me:

Somehow with all our technological advances in the world, going to the dentist in 2009 is exactly like going to the dentist as Bill Cosby described it in 1983.

I’ve been reading (and writing) blogs enough to realize that much of blogdom is a waste of time. There are many really good things about blogging, but one of the frustrating things is that many people–bloggers and commenters–don’t really make arguments. They insult or call names or emote or gainsay or play the victim or offer cryptic utterances that must seem like slam dunk responses to the ones making them. But none of these are really arguments. Which got me thinking of this sketch from Monty Python.

For good measure, here’s one more clip.

And who says a degree in philosophy isn’t worth anything?
