A Prayer about the Most Royal Wedding of All

Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.”Rev. 19:7-10

Dear heavenly Father, on a day on which many in our world set clocks and arranged schedules to view a wedding of total strangers—a wedding to which we were not invited, how can we not think about and long for our coming wedding day to Jesus?

Like John, when we see the glory of that day with the eyes of our hearts and feel it with the assurance of grace, we are undone with wonder, love and praise. There is no other option or appropriate response but to fall down and worship you with everything we have and are. What a generous God you are. What a rich standing in grace we have. What a most glorious future is ours.

We praise you Father for not just inviting us, but calling us to be the Bride of your beloved Son, Jesus. We aren’t outside spectators; our name is written in the Lamb’s book of life. The wedding of the Lamb is our wedding. When angels will say, “Behold the Bride” they will be talking about us! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Of all the people in the world, you have set your lavish affection on us. We are a most unworthy and unlikely Bride for the King of glory, but you have made us worthy by clothing us in the wedding garments of grace—the perfect righteousness of Jesus. We shall wear white because we have been made spotless by the blood of the Lamb. The righteous deeds we offer today are tokens of gratitude; symbols of praise; firstfruits of faith expressing itself in love.

We are saints only because we are betrothed to Jesus—legally married, already his and kept safe for the day of consummation. Grant us faith to know that Jesus is looking forward to our wedding day even more than we are. He cannot love us more than he does today and he will never love us less. We believe, help our unbelief.

Hurry and hasten that most magnificent day. Indeed, we rejoice and exult and give you glory, holy and gracious Father, for so great a salvation and so glorious a Savior. So very Amen, we pray, in Jesus’ matchless and merciful name.
