A Prayer for Centering Our Hearts on Jesus
Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Col. 3:1-4
Dear Lord Jesus, I’d do well to meditate on this particular Scripture at the beginning of every day; for it reminds us that all of life is about union and communion with you. No matter where I’m heading today, you are my destination and delight; my righteousness and holiness; my fountain and flourishing;
By God’s grace, your death is considered to be ours. When you died on the cross, your exhausted the judgment we deserve for all for living as rebels, fools and idolaters. When you were raised from the dead, we were raised with you, and were given a whole new life and story.
Right now my life is safely hidden in you, for God has placed me in union with you, Jesus. I’m covered with your righteousness—completely known, accepted, and very much loved by God. I’m destined to become as lovely and as loving as you, and to reign with your whole Bride in the new heaven and new earth. Nothing and no one can disrupt, alter or negate this glorious end to our salvation; for God has promised that we will appear with you in glory. Hallelujah, many times over!
No one, and nothing else, is worthy of my heart’s adoration, affection, and allegiance—but you, Lord Jesus. I set my heart, again and again, on you as my life and ultimate good—not on my reputation or competency, children or marriage, stuff or job; not on my desire to get even or to get out; to be liked or to be happy, to be in control or to be safe.
Jesus, you’ve done everything for me, and now I trust you to do everything in me that will bring you glory, and me more freedom and Christlikeness. So very Amen I pray, in your matchless and merciful name.
