A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity. The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. Ps. 37:10–13

Heavenly Father, with great anticipation, we look forward to the Day when we will actually hear you laugh—a laughter that already fills the counts of heaven and the chambers of eternity.

For that will be the Day when every expression of darkness and death, evil and folly, meanness and wickedness will be gone forever. Though not as quickly as we’d like, but more certainly than we can imagine, the Day of “all things new” is coming.

Forgive our fearful fretting, vengeful vexing, and meek-less musings. Our sin deserves your judgment, and requires your grace, as much as anyone’s. Our hope of “inheriting the land” is exclusively tied to the finished work of Jesus—our quintessentially “meek and lowly” Savior.

So when “wicked plots and gnashing teeth” seem to be on the increase, let us hear your laughter in the Gospel, Father. We have nothing to gloat about, but everything to be meek about.

May your joy be our strength, your promises be our confidence, and your timing be our schedule. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ tender and triumphant name.
