Two consenting adults over the age of eighteen should be permitted to marry. Period. Personally, I think it's sad when an uneducated eighteen or nineteen year-old heterosexual couple rushes to the altar, but it's not any of my business when or why they chose to wed.

It is not the government's place to decide who is deserving of marriage based on biblical premises. This is a clear violation of the separation of church and state. If clergypersons don't want to marry homosexual couples, or even recognize their unions, then so be it. Give it a rest, and focus on more pressing issues.

So, you think that you can coerce what the Bible requires?

Aren't non-Christians running headlong into certain judgement and wrath? Should the law forbid non-Christian religious expression?

It seems your love has limits...

He isn't. And neither are most Christians who oppose gay marriage. We are not hate mongers who seek the destruction of those who are gay, in fact we are supposed to love all, even those who hate, oppose, and persecute us.

But we seek to oppose gay marriage simply because we do love people, and we believe that people who willingly live in a way opposed to the conduct God desires and commands is bringing judgement and wrath on themselves in this life perhaps, and in the next life for certain. It is a cruel thing to see another person you care for running at high speed towards their own destruction and to sit back in lethargy or even encourage their behaviour. That is not hateful homophobia. It is love.

"In the span of a single sentence, President Obama put his administration publicly on the line to press, not only for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, but for the recognition that same-sex relationships are “just as real and admirable as relationships between a man and a woman.”

This I think is the key point. Some Christians will argue that the government should have nothing to do with marriage at all - Christian will disagree on that. But surely all Christians should agree that the government should not be promoting sinful relationships as admirable.

"For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." -- Romans 13:3-4 (NIV)
