What if you lack understanding? What if you don't understand your circumstances? You believe that God is in control, but you cannot see wisdom or goodness in your experience? If you say, "God is Sovereign. God is Wise. God is Good," but don't understand? Maybe it's blind faith or faith like a child, but can we anticipate meaning in this lifetime? The 3 truths feel like a mantra...

I was reading something similar to this in Stephen Charnock's Attributes of God. He was commenting on Rom 16:27 and enveloped goodness in with God's power. Some great reminders!

I absolutely agree with the three points you make. I agree with the dynamic you draw attention to. I agree too that they are extremely important.

However,I wonder if implicit in the blog is a danger that the gospel is displaced a little. The life changing ultimate truth in the Bible is the gospel.

The danger of a calvinistic perspective (one I share) is that God's sovereignty is made ultimate and the door to Scripture rather than the gospel. Of course these are not mutually exclusive, far from it, nevertheless, it is within the gospel story these aspects of God are supremely exposited in a way that makes them life-changing.

A minor, an perhaps unjust, observation on what is a good blog.

We are reeling from a year of incredible stressors. Our faith has been tested and stretched to the breaking except for that thread that links me to Truth. What you write is very close to my heart and I have been led along this same path. Thank you for the reinforcement that comes at a time when we are grieving and reeling from death, family mayhem and personal weakness.

I have maintained an awareness of the words of Peter through all this and it has kept me hanging on.

"Lord, where else would we go, You have the words of life?"
