Many thanks, Ryan! Yes, her two novels (Wise Blood and The Violent Bear It Away) are longer and stronger (and wonderful) doses of O'Connor's art. It's helpful to get to know her first through the short stories, and then to be more ready for the longer works.

I love Flannery O'Connor, after reading Mystery and Manners, I appreciated her a lot more and it's resurrected my desire to read for enjoyment rather than to "extract meaning" from the story like some component to be studied. But there's so much to learn and study from her stories, which is why I appreciate these articles, mostly because you chose to evaluate some of her short stories I haven't read. Thanks and I look forward to your next one.

P.S. Ever consider writing an article for each of her short stories? And have you read her novels as well?
