The annual New Life Bible Conference in Vernon Hills, IL is just days away, June 17-20. Every year it is the highlight of the summer. This year will surely be no different. This year the theme is "In Christ Alone: The Supremacy of Christ in the Book of Hebrews." I have the honor of joining Pastors Louis Love, Thabiti Anyabwile, Hensworth Jonas, and recent RTS grad Stephen Love in opening up the book of Hebrews and celebrating the supremacy of Christ in all things. Once again, it promises to be a wonderful time of gospel preaching and fellowship.

The Great Theologians and the Contemporary Church
Choosing which books to read can really be a challenge (as I am sure you know). I am currently reading several good books, some in direct preparation for sermons, some on the recommendations of others, and some just on a hunch that they would be good. One such hunch book is proving to be even [...]
Found Faithful at Christmas
When the angel came to Mary what was Mary doing? This is the question asked by Martin Luther as he contemplated Luke 1:26-33. Here is his answer for our contemplation this advent season: Quite possibly Mary was doing the housework when the angel Gabriel came to her. Angels prefer to come to people as they [...]
Sin Makes Us Fools
When I was playing football (seems like a lifetime ago), we would often say, “Fatigue makes cowards of us all.” Since I have been a Christian, especially since receiving the call to ministry, I have been frequently reminded, “Sin makes fools of us all.” Much has been made of Tiger Woods and his admission of [...]
What's Wrong With the World?
Paul David Tripp gives the following answer: “I must face the fact that my greatest need is not environmental. My greatest need does not derive from the fact that the brokenness of the Fall fractures every situation, every relationship, and every context. Yes, all my relationships are flawed in some way. And no, the world around [...]
Not Without Jesus
At a recent prayer meeting someone asked the question, “How do people make it in this world without Jesus?” The answer to that question is that they don’t. There is a sentence of death over every one who has not professed faith in Jesus Christ. This sentence is executable at any moment. And the only [...]
Is 'Balance' a Four-Letter Word?
According to J.I. Packer it is. In the ever-popular book 'Knowing God,' Packer calls balance “a horrible, self-conscious word.” Terry Johnson, the author of When Grace Comes, mostly agrees with Packer and states that he find himself ”bothered by few things so much as the preoccupation with maintaining a ‘well-rounded life.’” He states, ”I am particularly annoyed by those professing Christians whose chief ambition is to not get ‘carried away’ or step too far outside of the mainstream.”
Facebook: Community Without Depth
This is not a commentary about Facebook as much as it is a commentary on the nature of the way people approach church today.
Post-Conversion Truth
Why does God allow sin to exist? The quick answer is that he has ordained it for his glory. For the skeptic or the unbeliever, this answer does not suffice. To whom I would reply, “You are right.” Such truths are too high for the carnal, unbelieving mind. A mind that is lifted up in [...]
The Horror of False Teaching
The most harmful and deadliest export that America is giving to Africa is the Prosperity Gospel in the hands of Neo-pentecostals. They claim it is the gospel, but it is no gospel at all. Taking their cues from the folly of prosperity preachers in the U.S., those self-proclaimed preachers in Africa (in particular Nigeria) are [...]
