Starting the New Year Looking to the End
I can’t think of a better way to start the New Year than with a wedding. I have the joy this morning of joining together in marriage a young man and young woman from the church. As we do so, we’ll look forward to the marriage supper of the Lamb and the day the heavenly bride, the New Jerusalem, comes down out of heaven to be with the Husband.
As marriage points beyond itself, we’re reminded that our Beloved may come this year–or even today! Come, Lord Jesus, come!
“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.” (Matt. 22:1)
“Write: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” (Rev. 19:9)
“I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (Rev. 21:3).
