We are all like Bartimaeus, blinded spritually by sin, and obstructed by contraints of our world and environmental circumstances. Some cling to us, others we cling to. We question why God does not hear us. We must open the door to Christ, by untangling from our idols, pleasures and weakeness, we must shout for God and deliberate call on Him against all odds. He being infinitely merciful will hear and turn to us. He being a reader of the mind knows how sincere and earnest our cry is. He will turn to answer us and like Bartimeous our spritual blindness will be cured and we too can be behold spritual illumination and salvation. The story of Bartimeous also teaches us a lessen on Charity. We are prone to ignore the downcast and out. We find it hard to exchange identities, or let say, become a temporary begger or destitute. Then we can start to understand why God may not answer us if we do not give alms no mater who it is. Do you not understand that, the true secret of getting closer to God is by praying earnestly in prostration, fasting and giving of alms, and believing that God alone is your salvation? Do this and when your prayers beging to be answered almost consistently, then that will be a sign that The Ancient One has illuminated your soul.
