I'm not saying violence is ever right but we enslaved them remember? Castrated their men, raped their women, split their families labeled them as animals along with our chickens and cows, allowed them to work for us for free for 200 + years and then when we freed them (for political reasons not because we saw the error of our ways) We still persecuted them and still today hold more than 56% of all black males in jail for crimes (some of them that most white men get a probation for) CEOs who steal billions and child molesters (non-family) are 98% white , Serial killers these are the whites who are in prison the worst of the worst of whites. We just gave Blacks the right to vote forty years ago. No, President Obama does not mean the dream is alive and we've woke up or you could not make a statement like that . Black violence has always been in reaction to what has been done to them unlike us who did it because it was profitable. We went and got them after we slaughtered the Indians, remember!! I apologize for my ignorant white brothers and sisters who continue to act like Black America has a debt to pay!! Please please go read some history. It’s not about Black history, it’s about telling history that does not leave out the contribution Blacks have made to this country since they were dumped on American shores. Real History not a white only revisionist history! Please tell me what Blacks have done with no probation that they need to apologize for?

I'm currently reading <i>Consuming Jesus</i> as it relates to a current piece of assessment, so I don't have the luxury of being as thorough with it as it deserves. Like you and Jeff, I also didn't find the discussion of architecture as helpful as it could have been. Regarding your second critique, could I suggest reading part two of Volf's<i>The End of Memory</i>, particularly chapter 6 'Memory, the Exodus and the Passion'? Metzger would have done well to interact with this work, as it is complementary in so many ways. In reminding us that "Christ did not die only in solidarity with sufferers but also a substitute for offenders" (115), Volf also cautions against deceptive notions of complete innocence. I do agree with you that I think that the focus on architecht and the lord's supper to solve diversity was emphasized too much.
