I found this to be, by far, the most educational format that I have ever seen. The standard square off and duke it out format has been nothing short of sickening. I am also very tired of watching negative campaigning. Rick Warren played a very neutral role, offered great questions, and has done the people of the United states a great service by producing such an educational piece and not having any mud slinging for 2 solid hours. Truly amazing.

Pastor Rick Warren,

I believe you have changed the way to inform voters about candidates beliefs and positions on issues facing our country. In the future I trust the debates will be discontinued in favor of forums like what you have done. Please send your forum website out to all Americans so they can be better informed b/4 going to the poles to vote. Congratulations Rick & God Bless America!

Greetings from Europe!

Folks, you cannot imagine how much I hope that th US is making a clear change in political direction on nov 4th. Yes, McCain did a good job in this interview, but please don't lose track of the big, serious challenges we face in the next centuries:

Quote McCain: "My friends, we are facing the transcendent challenge of the 21-century: radical Islamic extremism."

That's totally mislead. This is base of the politics of the 60th and 70th of last century: Confronration, Devision of people, conducting war and fear. It would be a desaster if this direction would be continued.

The real threatening topics are climate change, energy, water. The chances are: A net-worked world, that is coming closer together. ...that, by the way, is needed to meet these challenges.

I know that most Americans are much more patriotic then most Europeans. That's ok and it's good to that you are proud of your country. But are you aware that "the rest" of the world is incrasingly losing the respect for the US? Why? See above. And, the 700billion USD for the financial crisis plus the 700billion USD spent for the war would have been a much better investement if they were used for your Health Care System, for scientific and ecomonic development scheme for regenerative energy sources (solar, wind, ..) or education.
THIS would have maintained the leadership of the US in the world.

I was a big fan of the US. My enthusiasm died the past 8 years. I hope it'll revive after nov 4th.
USA, be brave - make a change,
Wombel :-)

I'm sure it will, but out of the 2 will any of them win votes? i mean from what i've seen so far they're not the brightest tools in the shed. Then again, i guess you can call both of them a Tool :P
and the scary thing about Vp's is, is that they are solely chosen on the ability to win over votes, not wether or not they could lead a country in time of need. can you imagine McCain winning, and then something happens that would lead to Palin running the most powerful country in the world??. yikes!

And still with only 2 lame choices, those choices still stand for certains ideas and ideals. and one of them will be closer to your heart then the other.
to me debates are pointless. Fun, but pointless. just because noone ever really answers any questions.

I agree with most, the country is in Dire Need of change. However, I feel that with a country of 300+ million people, we only have 2 lame choices. Thats the really sad part. I wish we could have more choices. Can't wait to see the Palin-Biden-Debate. I'm sure that one will be good.

I have to get this off my chest. I saw the debate between McCain and Obama and went searching for forums, to find out what the average American thought of this debate. because sadly the next American president will still have a huge effect on the world we live in.
And as an outsider (Dutch, and for this forum, a non-believer in a god) i find some of these comments to be just unbelievable.

You would vote a president solely for his views on abortion??? or wether or not he thinks too long about questions??
Yes Obama stutters at times, and yes both candidates use teleprompters. Heck both candidates hardly know what to say if it weren't whispered in their ears by an enormous team of speechwriters, campaingmanagers and others.
Does that really matter? is that really important?? in these comments i have read few actually comment on the issues both candidates stand for.
It's just scarry to think McCain would become president because he's "more Christian". rather then just a better candidate. The same goes for Obama. (who would have my vote, just because of the two, he is the one not holding on to his beloved old tactics and strategies formed in the Bush administration. but that's just me)

You would do wise to consider the views and ideas they have, then to vote on his religious conviction.

This comment will probably not go over well with you guys. but it had to be said

i wish you all wisdom in your choices come januari, and happiness and joy in your lives.

Obama answered questions thoughtfully considering what he wants to convey. I believe he is a sincere christian. I claim that I am not for abortion; it is a sin and will discourage anyone from doing it, but I cannot control one from acting on it. I also believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman as the bible states, and will discourage it, but I cannot dictate a person from marrying another of the same sex. What if we as christians were told that we are not able to worship our Lord, wouldn't we feel our rights our violated? I feel there's so much judging on both sides! The best way we can lead others to Christ is by our own example and lovingly confronting a person if he is sinning. Bottom line is God is powerfull; only He can change things and do whatever He wants to do. Mccain, to me, seemed to give answers that were rehearsed over and over again to get votes not considering realistic solutions.

I'm sorry, but you can NOT be a Christian and pro-abortion. Truth is measured by God's Word and God's standards, not by our personal opinion or life experience. The Bible clearly teaches that God knits us together in our mother's wombs; before we are even born, God has a life plan for all of us. Thanks to medical technology (ultrasound, etc), now we have incontrovertible scientific proof that life begins at conception.

Abortion is murder. Period. A Christian cannot be pro-murder and still bear the name. I knew a woman who was raped, not by a man, but by an army of men in Uganda. She was left for dead, but lived. And was pregnant. She knew two wrongs don't make a right, so she gave birth to a precious boy, named Daniel, who was the joy of her life. Out of the most horrific experience imaginable, God brought something beautiful. Out of death, God brought life. The POWER in the Christian life is the POWER of seeing life through God's perspective, rather than viewing everything from our selfish, self-centered, self-seeking perspective. Or as Rick Warren put it: "It's not about us"

Obama opposed a law that would require abortionists to provide medical treatment to babies who are born alive after an abortion. That alone disqualifies him from becoming president of the United States and it certainly disqualifies him from calling himself a Christian or even a moral person. How he can justify allowing a baby BORN ALIVE to suffer and die with no medical attention is unfathomable to me and should outrage any human being with a conscience.

I am completely mystified that anyone who calls him or herself a Christian could consider voting for Obama. McCain certainly doesn't top my list of favorite politicians, but this is a no-brainer for any Christian. Yet in a nation where 80% of the people claim to be Christian, Obama is leading in the polls. Something has gone desperately wrong with the church in this country.
