Thanks for this-love the blog. My pal Simon Ponsonby has just written an excellent book on the last days called "And the lamb wins' that you may enjoy getting hold of and which covers lots of these issues. Just published in the US I think.

Ladd's excellent book, "The Blessed Hope," was my introduction to historic premillenialism. Through that book, I met a kindred spirit of posttribulationalism. I'm not sure what I expected when I purchased "A Place at the Table," but it wasn't what D'elia ended up writing. This book exceeded my expectations in a way I never considered. It's an in-depth look at academic ambition unrealized. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

“Readers like myself may be surpised by the fact that Dispensationalism was viewed as a test of orthodoxy for evangelicals in the 1950’s. Ladd showed great courage in going against the Dispensational tide.”

Yes, and unfortunately in some circles it still is believe me. Especially in the American Baptist and ‘Bible Church’ tradition there is often the assumption that there are no other valid ways of looking at eschatology or a host of other issues.
Even in that community though, Ladd’s work continues to confront and challenge the way it sees theology. I know that for me Ladd has been a large influence, and that much of the reason Dispensationalism has waned and even the critiques from within (like Progressive DT) can be traced to the influence of Ladd.
For this and other reasons I am glad to see interest in him and his theology continues today.
