Thought I might point out the amusing typo, the wonderful verse quoted is actually Matthew 6:26 although Matthew 5:26 is also relevant to those who have over-extended themselves on easy credit

"Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny"!

I read another statement about "the worth of the soul" recently. P.T.Forsyth in his lectures, "Positive Preaching and The Modern Mind",addresses this often but what caught my eye was when he used as an "illustration" the practical value of preaching on predestination. The point that I believe fits well into your post Trevin, and adds this further dimension is this: "People who rise above a material, selfish, impatient and over-practical Christianity will listen to preaching about the soul's destiny, about it being so absolute and precious that it was predestiny, bound up with God's timeless thought, will, purpose- a purpose pre-intelligent and pre-active and pre-redeeming (Rom Viii.28ff.)-a purpose in which God foreknew what He was about, fore-ordained the soul, the race, unto salvation, and fore-saved and justified it before our day, and indeed before the day of Time." There's much more but his whole point was that Preachers need to stress exactly what you are saying in the post since that is the Mega Story of Scripture, that is the Gospel.
