“Taken together we can infer from I Corinthians 15:3 – 5, Romans 1:1-4 and II Timothy 2:8, that the gospel is both about the person and work of Christ.

“God promised in the scriptures that He would renew creation and restore Israel. The gospel is the good news that God has made these promises good in Jesus, the Messiah and Lord. Jesus died and rose for the purpose of atoning for sins, and through faith in Him and His work believers are reconciled to God.

“The new age has been launched and God has revealed His saving righteousness in the gospel so that He justifies and delivers persons from the penalty and power of sin and death.”

  1. Josh says:

It would have been helpful to hear in that second statement how the promise to renew creation and to restore Israel is actually fulfilled in the rather individual reconciliation of believers with God.

Or am I the only one who sees a bit of a tension in that statement?

Same with “power of sin and death” – is it just individualistic or kingdom oriented in the wider impact that justified and delivered persons have in this world?

I haven’t read the book, maybe you can enlighten us!

    Trevin,

I’m delighted that you have a copy of this book and I look forward to hearing your comments about it.

  3. Trevin Wax says:

Thanks, Michael. I’ve got a review in the works.

  4. Dr. Paul W. Foltz says:

Christ told his disciples that He was sent to Israel, not to the Gentiles in Matthew 10;5-6.

When the nation rejected Him, the Gospel came to us.

When the church leaves, it will revert to Israel. [Romans 11;26]

I Cor. 10;32 says are 3 classes-unsaved Jews, unsaved Gentiles, and the Church made up of saved Jews and Gentiles,

  5. Mich says:

Does this mean that the Atonement includes Jesus’ life up to and including death on the Cross?

  6. Dr. Paul W. Foltz says:

Paul said in Romans we are saved by his life. ie. His resurrection life in us.
