Robbie,

I thought there might be a slight chance that the interview may have been "pre-recorded," so to speak. I am an active part of EV but also try to remain humble and think that many of the criticisms raised concerning EV/emergent/Emergent/Emergence are valid at least in part.

I don't think I had the best tone in my comment and I mean more frustration than anger, and not frustration toward you. Over the summer there was a huge conversation about whether EV was dead or not, and it got a lot of people riled up, putting out fires, saying, "I'm not dead yet!"

What is encouraging to me is that there are a lot of young, talented leaders stepping up within EV to move beyond EV 1.0 and in part to answer some of the valid criticisms about EV. There will be more women and minorities represented. There will be more sharing and conversation. There will be renewed focus on the arts, theology, communication, and purpose. It's an exciting time with many new voices waiting to be heard (and critiqued!).

By the way, Thom, I had not seen the post to which you linked, and was not aware of the "Emergent Green." Thanks for alerting me to it!

Dear Thom,

Thanks so much for your note of clarification re: Emergent Village (EV).

Please trust that my indication that EV had "disbanded" was by no means meant to belittle those identified with the emerging church movement, and certainly was not intended to spread rumors.

I think it might also be helpful to let you know that my responses to Trevin's interview questions above were completed and sent on well before September 8, which is the date of the blog post to which you've linked regarding the future of EV. (Your comment may be a bit misleading to some in that regard, however, since the post to which you link refers to the future of Emergent Green as an extension of Emergent Village.)

My reference instead was to the greatly changed (at the very least) nature of the EV, per this post: http://bit.ly/1t7o3d. Please accept my apologies if you were offended by my choice of wording in relation to the future of that particular aspect of the larger emerging church movement. May the Lord bless you and your ministry as you seek to follow after Christ.

You said: "less conferences planned, Emergent Village has been disbanded..."

I would do some serious fact checking in terms of Emergent Village. It is alive and well, as much as people want to say it has disbanded and dance around its tombstone.

Emergent Village will have a presence at Christianity21 in October and just had its annual conference with keynote speaker Jurgen Moltmann.

Emergent Village has a new village council and is reorganizing several of its roles to better fulfill the needs of Emergence Christianity.

It is very shortsided to (once again) be concluding the death of Emergent Village because of the actions of McLaren, Jones, and Pagitt. Read the last six months posts on Emergent Village's blog to find out about the changes to this alive and well organization.

A Special Letter Concerning the Future of Emergent Village should answer all your questions and show you that EV is not disbanded at all, but alive and well.

Please stop spreading rumors about EV and Emergence Christianity. It's hard enough to get the right message out concerning those in emergent/Emergent, let alone when people say things that are simply untrue. I would expect more from someone who is supposed to be following the conversation as a critic.

Hi Andrew,

I reviewed the new book here: http://trevinwax.com/2009/05/20/engaging-emergent-one-more-time/ I think it's one of the better books out there on the subject. Some of the essays are better than others, of course.

I believe the EC has made a major contribution, but partly because it is being integrated into wider evangelicalism. Tomorrow, I'm posting a review of Deep Church. I hope the remnants of the EC will move Jim Belcher's direction.

interesting conversation, Trevin. I will look out for the book but probably wont buy it if the author has only examined one or two emerging church streams. I think it would be almost impossible to derive general conclusions on this global movement by just looking at Emergent Village.

The contributions of the EC on the global missions movement is huge [sustainable models of church, etc] and is practically taken for granted, much like the impact of the charismatic movement.

Surprised NT Wright did not get a mention in regard to views of justification.

Anyway, interesting to read the interview. Keep it up!
