Chris,

It may be that Horton's views have consequences beyond what he has written. But in trying to interact with what Horton has actually written in this book, I get the feeling that Frame may be projecting the unintended consequences of some TRs back on Horton.

Thanks for adding your perspective. Understanding how Frame and Horton represent two wings of the Reformed spectrum help shed light on this discussion.

Trevin

Good post, but I do not agree that his review was scathing. I would call it honest and fair. The twofold distinctions that he critiques are relevant today. I am an RE in the PCA and at times the TRs in the denomination and reformed denominations in general, can over react.

Case in point, John Frame's discussion around Scripture and Application - I cannot tell you how many internal debates I have witnessed over the redemptive-historical method (Vos) and what we can and cannot say in terms of application in a sermon.

Just my additional 2 cents.

Christless Christianity can best be described as “prophetic.” It is a wake-up call to the American church to shake off the slumber of consumerist complacency. It is a rallying cry to put Jesus back in the center of our preaching, worship, and devotion.

I certainly agree with your statement above. I just released a post today on my blog reviewing a book entitled "The Words of Jesus" by Phyllis Tickle. http://redletterliving.net/2009/11/12/the-words-of-jesus/ In that book she makes the comment that the Gospel is the absolute center of the Bible and the words of Jesus are the center of the Gospels. Everything else, unless it points to this is a distraction from our main purpose as Christians.
We Christians must remain Christ centered or we lose the core of our faith.
