10KP2013

As this year winds to a close and next year closes in, I like to look back over the most popular posts. In 2013, these were the 10 most-read blog posts here at Kingdom People.

10. How Andy Stanley and Tim Keller Preach With Non-Believers in Mind (January 14, 2013)

Stanley and Keller may be worlds apart in terms of their theological vision for ministry, but they both maintain that a preacher should consider the unsaved, unchurched people in attendance.

9. Rob Bell and Andrew Wilson Discuss Homosexuality (May 10, 2013)

Andrew Wilson and Rob Bell have an engaging dialogue about the legitimacy of homosexual relationships within Christianity.

8. How Should Christians Respond to Noah the Movie? (November 18, 2013)

Whenever Hollywood takes a biblical story as its basis for a movie, evangelicals tend to respond in one of two ways.

7. Jim Elliot’s Brother, Bert: The Hero You Don’t Know (October 9, 2013)

I had a conversation with Michael Kelley about his book, Boring: Finding an Extraordinary God in an Ordinary Life. Michael tells the story of Bert Elliot, brother to missionary Jim, as an example of what faithfulness over a lifetime looks like.

6. Learning from a Lesbian Visitor to Your Church (September 30, 2013)

A few weeks ago, I had lunch with a church planter from New England. On a regular basis, people call the church and ask him if they are “welcoming.” He told me the conversation usually goes like this.

5. Why Millennials are Leaving the Church: A Response to Rachel Held Evans (August 1, 2013)

Like Rachel, I’m 32 – right on the border of the millennials, and many of the questions and doubts I hear from the millennial generation resonate with me too. But my analysis differs somewhat from Rachel’s.

4. Anonymous Youth Pastor’s Letter to a Parent (September 23, 2013) This certainly struck a chord with readers. So much so, I felt an additional post (Continuing the Conversation Begun by the “Anonymous Youth Pastor”) was warranted.

Dear _____________,

I need to get something off my chest.

3. Why Gay Marriage Is Good (and Bad) for the Church (June 26, 2013)

I’m not optimistic about the trends concerning marriage and family in the United States. Neither am I sure of what all this means for those who, in good conscience, stand against the tide. But I am optimistic about the church of Jesus Christ.

2. 8 Reasons for the Media Blackout on Kermit Gosnell (April 11, 2013)

To put the Kermit Gosnell trial in perspective, consider other famous cases of child-killing. From Susan Smith to Andrea Yates, and most recently the horror of Newtown, we are accustomed to 24/7 news coverage of these types of tragedies.

Not so with Dr. Gosnell.

1. “I Weep for Miley” (August 26, 2013) This was far and away the most popular post I wrote in 2013. It generated almost 84,000 likes on Facebook and raised so many questions, I wrote the follow-up post, Some Thoughts on “I Weep for Miley.”

Picking up a sub sandwich today, I saw a news report on CNN about Miley Cyrus’ performance at last night’s VMA’s. I was shocked, then sickened, then saddened.

Check out the 2012 Top 10.
