Monday Evening Prayer

The Call to Prayer
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
  Psalm 51:15-17

The Request for Presence
You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!
  Psalm 70:5

Confession
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight… Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
  Psalm 51:1-4, 10-12

The Greeting
O gracious Light, pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.
  Phos Hilaron

The Refrain
When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
  Psalm 65:3

A Reading
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram went as the Lord had told him… After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
  Genesis 12:1-4, 15:1, 5-6

The Refrain
When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
  Psalm 65:3

Evening Psalm
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
  Psalm 127:1-3

The Refrain
When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
  Psalm 65:3

The Cry of the Church
Lord, give us neither poverty nor riches. Feed us with the food that is needful for us, lest we be full and deny You and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest we be poor and steal and profane the name of our God.
  Proverbs 30:8-9

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Personal Requests

Closing Prayer
I thank you, heavenly Father, that you have delivered me from the dominion of sin and death and brought me into the kingdom of your Son; and I pray that, as by his death he has recalled me to life, so by his love he may raise me to eternal joys; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
