Monday Morning Prayer

The Call to Prayer
Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.
  Psalm 56:8-9

The Request for Presence
Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!
  Psalm 31:19

Confession
O Lord and Master, I am unworthy both of heaven and of earth, because I have surrendered myself to sin, and become the slave of worldly pleasures. Yet, since you created me, and since you can shape me as you want, I do not despair of salvation; but made bold by your compassionate love, I come before you. Receive me, dear Lord, as you received the harlot, the thief, the tax collector and even the prodigal son. You love all people, so pour out your love upon me. Lift from me the heavy burden of sin, cleanse every stain of unrighteousness from me, and wash me white with the waters of holiness.
  Basil of Caesarea

The Greeting
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
  1 John 1:9

The Refrain
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
  Psalm 33:11

A Reading
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
  Colossians 3:12-17

The Refrain
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
  Psalm 33:11

Morning Psalm
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! The Lord has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Aaron; he will bless those who fear the Lord, both the small and the great. May the Lord give you increase, you and your children! May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
  Psalm 115:1, 12-15

The Refrain
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
  Psalm 33:11

Prayer of the Church
Christ, as a light, illumine and guide me. Christ, as a shield, overshadow and cover me. Christ be under me. Christ be over me. Christ be beside me, on left and on right. Christ be before me. Christ be behind me. Christ be within me. Christ be outside me. Christ, as a light, illumine and guide me.
  Patrick of Ireland

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Personal Requests

Closing Prayer
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father: you have brought me in safety to this new day. Preserve me with your mighty power that I might not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity, and in all I do, direct me to the fulfilling of your purpose, through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
