Thursday Midday Prayer
The Call to Prayer
Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!
Psalm 34:3
The Request for Presence
Jesus, born a refugee: come among us. Jesus, friend of the poor: come among us. Jesus, lover of the outcast: come among us. Christ, food for the hungry: come among us. Christ, health of the sick: come among us. Christ, savior of the world: come among us. Jesus, bringer of good news: come among us. Jesus, hope of us all: come among us.
Celtic Prayer
Confession
Merciful Lord, pardon all the sins of my life, of omission and commission, of lips, life and walk, of hard-heartedness, unbelief, pride, of bringing dishonor on your great name, of impurity in thought, word and deed, of covetousness, which is idolatry. Pardon all my sins, known and unknown, felt and unfelt, confessed and unconfessed, remembered or forgotten. Good Lord, hear; and hearing, forgive!
The Valley of Vision (Puritan Prayer)
The Greeting
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!
Psalm 57:6
The Refrain
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful.
Psalm 116:5
A Reading
Do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke 12:29-34
The Refrain
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful.
Psalm 116:5
Midday Psalm
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. To you, O Lord, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me! O Lord, be my helper!” You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
Psalm 30:4-5, 8-12
The Refrain
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful.
Psalm 116:5
Zechariah’s Song
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us; to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1:68-79
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Personal Requests
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, you have promised to hear what we ask in the name of your Son: accept and fulfill my petitions, I pray, not as I ask in my ignorance, nor as I deserve in my sinfulness, but as you know and love me in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
