Here Is Our God!
God’s Revelation of Himself in Scripture

The Gospel Coalition’s 2012 National Women’s Conference is for women but not all about women. It’s about the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s a time to learn more of what Scripture says to us—and to say it to each other. A time to dig deeper into the character of God and his purpose for his people. A time to gather together and share biblical encouragement  as sisters, daughters, wives, mothers, and friends.

Several renowned Bible teachers, including three TGC founding members, will explore the theme “Here Is Our God!” by guiding us through the Bible’s unfolding revelation of God to human eyes and hearts. Plenaries will offer exposition of biblical texts in which the Lord shows himself to his people. Seminars will feature women living out the Word, seeing and serving God with transformed and transforming lives. We’ll worship together through music led by Keith and Kristyn Getty.

This time together in Orlando will fix our eyes on Christ, in whom God has shown himself fully, to enable us to see him more clearly and serve him more powerfully.

Beginning with the Gospel

Tim and Kathy Keller, Don Carson, and John Piper

Join us for three one-hour talks before the conference begins. Tim and Kathy Keller will share their story and their thoughts on reflecting the gospel through marriage and family. Don Carson will help us grasp the import of Paul’s words to Timothy about speaking gospel truth. John Piper will discuss how a singleminded pursuit of joy in God is essential to a life of glorifying him and loving others well. The specific focus of application in these talks will be for women living out the gospel in the twenty-first century church.

Kristie Anyabwile

Kristie is a North Carolina native and graduate of NC State University with a degree in history. She is a wife, mother, and homemaker who loves cooking, hospitality, reading, and long walks with her hubby. Kristie is passionate about mentoring young women and watching them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. She and her husband, Thabiti, live in the Cayman Islands where Thabiti serves as senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman. They have been married 20 years and have three children by birth, and several adult “adopted” children who have become a part of their family.

Mindy Belz

Mindy Belz has written for WORLD Magazine since 1986, becoming the magazine's international editor in 1994 and its editor in 2004. She has covered war in Africa, the Balkans, and the Middle East, including Afghanistan and Iraq. Her reporting has been published overseas and in other U.S. publications. She has appeared on Fox News and ABC News. She is a former Capitol Hill staffer, attended George Washington University, is married to graphic designer, editor and writer Nat Belz, has four children, and makes home in Asheville, North Carolina

Paige Benton Brown

Paige Benton Brown (M.A. Covenant Theological Seminary) is a native of Cleveland, Mississippi. She completed a masters degree at Covenant Theological Seminary after graduating from the University of Mississippi. Paige served on staff with Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at Vanderbilt University for many years, and again at the University of Virginia. In between campuses, she was a teacher on staff at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. After a couple of years in New York City, Paige and her husband, Reagan, now live in the Washington D.C. area with their three young children.

Lydia Brownback

Lydia Brownback is the author of several books, including A Woman's Wisdom: How the Book of Proverbs Speaks to Everything (Crossway, forthcoming in 2012) and a speaker at women’s conferences. Lydia serves as the director of editorial at Crossway, and she blogs at The Purple Cellar. Previously she worked as the writer-in-residence for Reverend Alistair Begg and as the broadcast media manager for Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, where she produced The Bible Study Hour radio program with James Montgomery Boice. Lydia holds degrees from Syracuse University and Westminster Theological Seminary and resides in Wheaton, Illinois.

Don Carson

Don Carson (PhD, University of Cambridge) is research professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He has been at Trinity since 1978. Carson came to Trinity from the faculty of Northwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he also served for two years as academic dean. He has served as assistant pastor and pastor and has done itinerant ministry in Canada and the United Kingdom. Carson is co-founder (with Tim Keller) and president of The Gospel Coalition. Carson and his wife, Joy, reside in Libertyville, Illinois. They have two children. In his spare time, Carson enjoys reading, hiking, and woodworking.

Lauren Chandler

Lauren Chandler is a wife and mother of three. Her husband, Matt Chandler, serves as the lead teaching pastor at The Village Church in Dallas, Texas. Lauren is passionate about writing music and leading worship, not only at The Village Church, but also for groups across the country. The Lord has taken Matt and Lauren on a challenging journey, beginning with the November 2009 discovery of a malignant brain tumor in Matt. The Lord has been infinitely merciful to provide peace and comfort in uncertainty, and joy in times of victory and healing. Lauren and her family have been given a deeper trust in clinging to the Lord and his cross during this appointed season of valleys and storms.

Kathleen Chapell

Kathleen Chapell holds a B.A. in music education and performance and an M.A. in music performance (with flute as her specialty) from Southern Illinois University. A longtime resident of St. Louis, Missouri, Kathy directs the choir of Covenant Presbyterian Church and enjoys participating in the music ministries at Covenant Theological Seminary, where her husband, Bryan Chapell, serves as president. Kathy and Bryan have four children.

Miyon Chung

Dr. Chung has been teaching systematic theology and ethics at Torch Trinity since the fall of 2002. She was born in Seoul, Korea but immigrated with her family to the US in 1979. She received a B.A. (Government/Pre-Law) from the University of Texas at Austin and subsequently received master's degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Church Social Work and in Theology. While working on her PhD in Theology, Chung served as academic dean of Dallas Korean Seminary and Guatemala Baptist Seminary. Internationally, she is a working member of Baptist World Alliance, Asia Pacific Baptist Fellowship, and Global Diaspora Network. Her home church in Korea is Suwon Central Baptist Church.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Nancy Leigh DeMoss mentors thousands of women through Revive Our Hearts and the True Woman Movement, calling them to heart revival and biblical womanhood. Her love for the Word and the Lord Jesus are infectious, and permeate her online outreaches, conference messages, books, and two daily nationally syndicated radio programs—Revive Our Hearts and Seeking Him with Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Her books have sold more than 2,000,000 copies.

Elyse Fitzpatrick

Elyse and her husband, Phil, have been married for nearly four decades and have three children and six grandchildren. She and Phil attend Valley Center Community Church in Valley City, California, where Phil is an elder. Elyse holds a master's degree in biblical counseling, is the author of sixteen books and is a frequent conference speaker.

Keri Folmar

Keri is the wife of John Folmar, pastor of the United Christian Church of Dubai (UCCD) in the United Arab Emirates, and the mother of Ruth (12), Chloe (10) and Andrew (9). She writes, teaches and leads ladies' Bible studies at UCCD with an extraordinary group of ladies from every habitable continent. In a former life, Keri was the chief counsel of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, where she had the privilege of being the staff writer of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban.

Colleen Gallagher

Colleen Gallagher has worked since 2007 for the Charles Simeon Trust, a ministry devoted to equipping the next generation of Bible expositors. Prior to working with the Trust, she was in the corporate world for six years, most recently as a business development manager at a major insurance corporation. Colleen earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the College of Business, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is presently pursuing an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. She serves on the board of Matthias Media, an evangelical publisher of gospel-centered resources. Making her home in Chicago, Colleen is a member of Holy Trinity Church where she teaches women regularly and trains women to read the Bible one-to-one.

Keith and Kristyn Getty

Keith and Kristyn Getty have been at the forefront of the modern hymn movement over the past decade, bridging the gap between the traditional and the contemporary. They currently live in the United States where they have just finished their second album together, Awaken the Dawn, a collection of hymns that takes believers on a lyrical journey of grace and hope for all the nations. This follows their first collection of hymns, the 2006 release In Christ Alone.

Nancy Guthrie

Nancy Guthrie is a Bible teacher and author of seven books, including Holding On to Hope, The One Year Book of Hope, Hoping for Something Better, When Your Family’s Lost a Loved One, Dinner Table Devotions and Discussion-Starters, Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow, and Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament. Nancy and her husband, David, are hosts of the GriefShare video series used in more than 6,000 churches nationwide for small group ministry to grieving people. They also host Respite Retreat, a retreat ministry for couples who have experienced the death of a child. Along with their 20-year-old son, Matt, the Guthries are members of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee.

Susan Hunt

Susan Hunt is a pastor's wife, mother, grandmother, and former director of women's ministry for the Presbyterian Church in America. She has authored several books, including Spiritual Mothering: The Titus 2 Mandate for Women Mentoring Women, and Women's Ministry in the Local Church (co-authored with Ligon Duncan).

Mary Kassian

Mary Kassian is an author, speaker, and professor at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has published several books, Bible studies and videos, including: In My Father’s House: Finding Your Heart’s True Home, Conversation Peace, Vertically Inclined, and The Feminist Mistake. Born and raised in Edmonton, Canada, Mary graduated from the faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Alberta, Canada, and has studied systematic theology at the doctoral level. She speaks at conferences nationally and internationally, and has appeared on numerous radio and television shows, including Focus on the Family, Family Life Today, and Marriage Uncensored. She and her husband, Brent—chaplain for a professional football team—enjoy a life full of athletics and adventure with their three sons.

Kathy Keller

Kathy Keller holds an MA in theological studies (summa cum laude) from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, has worked as an editor for Great Commission Publications, and presently serves on the staff of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, where her husband, Tim, is senior pastor. In Redeemer's early years, Tim preached and Kathy was the entire staff; now she serves as assistant director of communications. Kathy and Tim have three grown sons.

Tim Keller

Tim Keller (DMin, Westminster Theological Seminary) is the senior pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Keller was raised in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and holds degrees from Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. Tim became a Christian at Bucknell owing to the ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, with which he later served as a staff member. He was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and served as a pastor in Virginia for nine years, while also serving as director of church planting for the PCA. He also served on the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he and his wife, Kathy, were involved in urban ministry, and he continues as an adjunct professor of practical theology. Tim is co-founder (with D.A. Carson) and vice president of The Gospel Coalition. He is the author of The Reason for God, The Prodigal God, and Counterfeit Gods.

Adrienne Lawrence

Adrienne is a graduate of Duke University and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. She has been active in ministry for many years discipling women, leading women’s Bible studies, and speaking at women’s retreats. However, her greatest joy is in supporting her husband who was an associate pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., for many years and is now senior pastor of Hinson Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon. She has been married to Michael for 22 years, and they have five children.

Deborah Lorentsen

Deborah Lorentsen lives in Wheaton, Illinois, where she and husband John have raised three boys. She is an RN BSN having attended Taylor University, West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Presently she is active in the Women’s Bible Study at College Church in Wheaton where she serves as a regular lecturer, small group leader and curriculum coordinator. She also serves on the board of the Charles Simeon Trust.

Karen Loritts

Karen Loritts and her husband, Crawford—the senior pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, Georgia— are associate staff with Campus Crusade for Christ International where they previously served full-time for 27 years. Her ministry includes speaking and teaching at conferences, seminars, and retreats. She holds an undergraduate degree in journalism/mass communications. She and her husband have four adult children, two sons-in-love, two daughters-in-love, four adorable grandsons, and three precious granddaughters.

Carolyn Mahaney

Carolyn Mahaney is a wife, mother, homemaker, and the author of Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother, Girl Talk: Mother-Daughter Conversations on Biblical Womanhood (written with her oldest daughter, Nicole) and Shopping for Time: How to Do It All and Not Be Overwhelmed (written with all her daughters). During her more than 30 years as a pastor’s wife, Carolyn has spoken to women in many churches and conferences, including those of Sovereign Grace Ministries. She and her husband, C.J., have three married daughters and one 18-year-old son, Chad.

Mary K. Mohler

Mary serves in ministry as the president's wife at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and as the founder and director of Seminary Wives Institute, an academic program for student wives at Southern Seminary and Boyce College. Mrs. Mohler has contributed to several devotional books as well as the forthcoming book Recovering the Christian Woman’s Home. Her favorite role is that of wife and mother. She and her husband, R. Albert Mohler Jr., have two grown children, Katie and Christopher. The Mohlers have been married for 29 years.

Kathleen B. Nielson

Kathleen B. Nielson (PhD, Vanderbilt University) serves as director of women's initiatives for The Gospel Coalition. She has taught in the English departments at Vanderbilt, Bethel College (MN), and Wheaton College. She authors the Living Word Bible studies (P&R), as well as various articles, poems, and a book, Bible Study: Following the Ways of the Word. Kathleen speaks extensively at women's conferences, has directed and taught women's Bible studies at several churches, and serves on the board of The Charles Simeon Trust. She loves the community at Covenant College, where her husband, Niel, serves as president. The Nielsons have three grown sons, two daughters-in-law, and a granddaughter.

Jani Ortlund

Jani Ortlund is executive vice president of Renewal Ministries and loves spending her energies connecting women with the Word of God. Serving Jesus Christ through writing, speaking, and discipling are her chief passions in life. Jani and Ray—pastor of Immanuel Church—have four married children and seven grandchildren, and minister in Nashville, Tennessee.

John Piper

John Piper is the Pastor for Preaching at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, and studied at Wheaton College, where he first sensed God's call to enter the ministry. He went on to earn degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary (B.D.) and the University of Munich (D.theol.). For six years he taught biblical studies at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and in 1980 accepted the call to serve as pastor at Bethlehem. John is the author of more than 30 books and more than 25 years of his preaching and teaching is available free at desiringGod.org. John and his wife, Noel, have four sons, one daughter, and an increasing number of grandchildren.

Noel Piper

Noel Piper is a speaker and the author of Treasuring God in Our Traditions and several other books. She has traveled extensively internationally for missions purposes and blogs at noelpiper.com/. But her main calling is to her family. She and her husband, John, have ministered 31 years at Bethlehem Baptist in Minneapolis. They have four married sons and twelve grandchildren. Their daughter is a high schooler and is home schooled.

Jenny Salt

Jenny Salt (MDiv, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) hails from Sydney, Australia, and is a proud Aussie! She also has a soft spot for Chicago after living there on and off for a few years between 2003 and 2009, while studying at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Since 1997 Jenny has served at Sydney Missionary and Bible College, for most of that time as dean of women but most recently as dean of students. Jenny’s ministry extends to women’s conferences throughout Australia as well as in South Africa and New Zealand. Her passion is expository Bible teaching as well as equipping other women to do the same. Jenny has contributed to a number of books, including How to Write a Bible Talk and What Women Really Need. She loves spending time with her family (including six nieces and nephews) and making the most of the numerous walkways around Sydney Harbour.

Carrie Sandom

Carrie Sandom has been involved in women's ministry for more than 20 years, working with students in Cambridge and young professionals in London before moving to St John's, Tunbridge Wells, where she is currently working with women of all ages and stages of life. An experienced conference speaker, she also trains women for Bible teaching ministry at the Cornhill Training Course in London and co-hosts the annual Proclamation Trust

Leeann Stiles

Leeann Stiles has been active in ministry for more than 30 years in a variety of capacities from directing short term mission trips to writing and leading Bible studies for women. She and her husband, Mack, have spent the last 10 years in the United Arab Emirates, where they’ve spearheaded a ministry to university students and been involved in church reform and church planting. They have three grown sons. Leeann currently oversees women’s ministries at Redeemer Church of Dubai. She’s also the coauthor of a book, Mack and Leeann’s Guide to Short Term Missions.

Jessica Thompson

Jessica grew up in southern California, completed her B.A. in theology, and married her high school sweetheart, Cody Thompson. They enjoy homeschooling their three children and worshiping at Westview Church, an Acts29 church plant in San Diego county. Jessica co-authored (with her mother Elyse Fitzpatrick) Give Them Grace: Dazzling your Kids with the Love of Christ, and is presently writing a devotional for children and parents, to be published by Crossway in 2013.

Mary Willson

Mary Willson, a native Tennessean, now serves as the director of women in ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Upon graduating from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2009 (MDiv and ThM), she joined the staff at First Presbyterian where she focuses on biblical exposition, discipleship of women, and spiritual formation.

A Journalist’s Call to Speak Truth

This seminar will ask us to grapple with the Christian’s responsibility to speak true words about what God is doing in the world – through the eyes of one who has spent 25 years as a journalist, wrestling with discerning the news of the day from a Christian perspective. How do we hear accurately what the Lord is doing in the world and understand our place in it? How do we reflect the Bible’s central redemptive story, with Jesus Christ at the center, in the way we understand and articulate all the stories that fill our part of history? In this Age of Information we are all communicators; how can we be wise and godly ones?

Meaningful Ministry: Relationships Required?

Kingdom Matters

Jesus came bringing and proclaiming a kingdom.  Kingdom citizenship is a broader assignment than simply being a ministry leader or a church member. Starting with the biblical gospel, how do we understand kingdom citizenship and its reach into all of life?

Perspectives from Asia: Choosing Hope Against All Odds

Miyon Chung will expound the biblical theme of hope as it has sustained Christians in Asia, a continent where hope is often the only resource people have to survive and thrive. More than a mere idle wish, more than an impossible luxury, hope is a strong word that takes us straight to the cross of Jesus Christ. This seminar will address the theme of hope in the Bible from the vantage point of the cross and resurrection—in order that we might demonstrate the hope of Christ in our daily lives, no matter what the circumstances. The perspectives of our brothers and sisters in Asia can help illumine for us a biblical understanding of hope.

Every woman is involved in counseling of some sort, whether in a formal setting or at the local coffee shop with friends. In this seminar, Elyse will take the beautiful declarations of Christ’s work on our behalf (his incarnation, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, ascension and reign) and apply them to broken people and relationships. Learning how the gospel intersects with our brokenness is key to providing help that is informed by the Wonderful Counselor and offers hope for deep transformation by the Spirit.

The Snare of Compare (John 21:15-22)

We'll consider the risen Lord's dramatic confrontation with Peter, in which Peter is called to face a future he would not choose but cannot change. Peter's first instinct is to compare—to look to those around him rather than to his Lord. How do we respond to challenges we don't want but can't change? The human temptation is to measure our lot against that of others. How can we turn this temptation to compare ourselves with others into a heart of gospel ministry to others? Jesus' challenging words to Peter can point the way.

Transformation by the Word: The Power of Scripture Memory

This practical seminar will encourage and inspire us to take seriously the spiritual discipline of Scripture meditation and memorization. The Sabbath: A Biblical Theological Approach

In a weary and broken world, a gospel-centered Sabbath rhythm offers hope, rest, and joy to those who trust in Jesus Christ. Several Old and New Testament texts will help us address questions such as: How does the Sabbath teach us to depend on God as Creator, Redeemer, and provider? How does Jesus view the Sabbath? How can we practice a Sabbatical rhythm, enslaved as we are by the tyranny of the urgent? How can this practice advance the church’s global witness? As we trace this scriptural theme, we will encounter the radical implications of God’s Sabbath rest and his gift of that rest to his people.
