Many people react negatively to the word theology, believing that it involves dry, fruitless arguments about minute points of doctrine. Yet as Dr. R.C. Sproul argues, everyone is a theologian. Any time we think about a teaching of the Bible and strive to understand it, we are engaging in theology. Therefore, it is important that we put the Bible’s varied teachings together in a systematic fashion, using proper, time-tested methods of interpretation so as to arrive at a theology that is founded on truth.

That is precisely what Dr. Sproul does in Everyone’s a Theologian: An Introduction to Systematic Theology. This book is anything but a dry discussion of minute points of doctrine. Dr. Sproul, demonstrating his trademark ability to make complex subjects easy to understand, surveys the basic truths of the Christian faith, reminding us once more of what God is like and of what He has done for His people in this world and the next.

While the majority of the world speaks and communicates in local languages, globalization has created one major stream of communication—Global English. It is the official language of 53 nations (one-fourth of the world), and it is estimated that another billion people speak it as their second language. Nearly 1,742,600,000 are able to access, read, and comprehend resources in the English language. That’s more than 1 out of 5 people in the world!

While we continue to pursue translation into key languages, many times it is more cost effective to make English resources available to pastors, seminaries, and those who train church leaders. Global English is vital for equipping Christian leaders with selected biblical works.

Imagine if there was a way that people could grow in their knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ—a way that returned gospel growth to the everyday fabric of personal relationship, rather than relying on church-run programs. That guided people in a deeper, more meaningful way than an event, program or class could possibly do—guided on an individual basis by someone who cared for them personally.

What is this way? What is this activity that is so simple and so universal that it meets the discipleship needs of very different people at very different stages of discipleship, even non-Christians?

We call it reading the Bible one-to-one.

Japanese Book Project

The Supremacy of God in Preaching by John Piper

Goal: $16,000

100% Raised

TGC International Outreach is engaged in Theological Famine Relief for the Global Church. We create Relief Projects by working with translators, publishers, and printers here in North America as well as overseas, and donate these resources through global missions networks. Through your generous gifts, these projects enable us to strengthen thousands of church leaders in Asia, Africa, and South America.

This project is in support of events planned in late 2014 in which John Piper and Don Carson will be speaking to church leaders in Japan. This will include events in the three largest metropolitan areas (Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya) including a seminary class for Christian leaders and an evening event for students.

Japan

Japan is home to nearly 130 million people who run the world’s second most powerful economy. It is also one of the greatest mission challenges of the world as only 0.2% of the population attend church. According to the Joshua Project, the Japanese are the second largest unreached people group in the world.

Freedom of religion is a guarantee that is enjoyed by all residents of Japan and yet, over 80% of the population claim absolutely no religious affiliation. However, if asked, most people claim some form of idolatrous ancestor worship. With an aging population, the younger generation tends to be self-absorbed. Japan is one of the few nations with a negative birth rate and is seeing a decline in population. Missionaries, for generations, have worked diligently to plant churches, yet with only small responsiveness from the people. The nation has also been cultivated by many cults and other Quasi-Christian groups (Moonies, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, etc).

Yet, in God’s grace over 1,200 missionaries now live in Japan and are seeing a small, but growing response as people find a lack of fulfillment in modernism, social life, and ancient traditions. Missionaries and mission agencies are now networking to provide mutual support and encouragement in a country that has been resistant to the Gospel. Collectively, these indigenous and foreign missionaries are finding new ways to present Christianity and plant churches.

According to Warren Wiersbe, The Supremacy of God in Preaching "'calls us back to a biblical standard for preaching, a standard exemplified by many of the pulpit giants of the past, especially Jonathan Edwards and Charles Spurgeon." This newly revised edition is an essential guide for preachers who want to stir the embers of revival. Piper focuses his study on the example of Jonathan Edwards as an illustration of a leader who submitted to God.

TGC Expanded Translation Initiative

Goal: $15,000

100% Raised

In a few months, TGC will be launching a major new translation initiative that will significantly increase our bandwidth for translating and distributing both digital and print content. Last year, TGC International Outreach distributed over 63,000 physical resources in 11 languages to 40 countries. This new initiative will allow us to expand our online efforts to create translated biblical teaching from trustworthy reformed theological content in manuscript, video, audio, and apps formats.

Expanded Translation Capacity

This new effort will allow The Gospel Coalition to:

  • Build a worldwide network of translators who understand the theological and cultural nuances of translation.
  • Launch a new multi-language web platform that will aggregate and spread the best resources in languages from around the world.
  • Provide a website with improved usability and mobile readiness, deploying a strong indexing feature to enhance searches by topic, author, scripture, and language.
  • Increase the number of languages for live translation at our conferences.
  • Offer translation services for churches and other ministries.
  • Expand the number of translated books in digital and physical formats.
  • Expand beyond translated articles to include video, audio, and apps.

Trustworthy Content

  • We will be working with the best reform-minded teachers and theologians to get their writings and sermons translated into other languages.

  • There are also indigenous theologians and leaders outside the West who are themselves creating solid, biblical content with a fresh perspective from their own cultural background, to inspire the global church. We want to provide a platform for their work to be more easily accessed.

High-quality Translation

The quality of translated content is of critical importance. It does not come easily or for free, and requires good partners and attention to detail. We will work to maintain and coordinate a network of relationships with trusted translators. We are implementing standards that will guide all who partner with us to ensure that the work is done by qualified people in order to produce readable, high quality translations:

  • Linguistically accurate, but not overly literate so as to be unreadable.

  • Authentic to the intended indigenous group audience and readers

  • Understandable (avoiding potential confusion over the original author’s American idioms, colloquialisms, cultural references, etc.

  • Theologically accurate

  • Accessible (using terminology that aims for understanding by both Christian and non-Christian readers)

TGC’s International Outreach effort is engaged in a mission of Theological Famine Relief for the Global Church. We are partnering with translators, publishers, and missions networks to provide new access to biblical resources, in digital and physical formats. Our goal is to strengthen thousands of congregations by helping to equip the pastors and elders who are called to shepherd them.

Much of our mission involves providing physical resources, particularly for the world regions that most lack access. All along, our vision has included the use of the Internet to spread good translated content to the nations, as access grows over time.

Spanish Book Project for Argentina

What Is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert

Goal: $8,500

100% Raised

Through your generous gifts, these projects enable us to strengthen thousands of church leaders in Asia, Africa, and South America.

Argentina

Evangelical churches have experienced huge growth in Argentina in the last 30 years. Regrettably, the gospel has not been clearly expounded in all cases. Evangelism happens in the homes and through personal testimonies. But there is often an absence of the public exposition of the gospel. Not only unconverted people need to hear the gospel. Christians too, and urgently in this current church atmosphere. A man-centered focus and influence coming from psychology have affected pulpits.

This very important book will be given (free) to Argentine pastors and leaders participating in a country-wide evangelistic project by Sociedad Biblica Argentina. Project 1M aims to reach 1 million homes with the gospel. This book will help equip and inspire these leaders to accurately share and teach the gospel, not only for salvation, but for all the Christian life.

Argentina’s population exceeds 40 million. The dominant religion is Roman Catholic (92%); Evangelicals represent about 9%. Argentina benefits from rich natural resources, a highly literate population, an export-oriented agricultural sector, and a diversified industrial base. It ranks 23rd in the world for GDP, yet 30% of its population is below the poverty line. (The World Fact Book; Operation World)

Spanish is the official and universally spoken language of Argentina.

Resource

What is the gospel?
It seems like a simple question, yet it has been known to incite some heated responses, even in the church. How are we to formulate a clear, biblical understanding of the gospel? Tradition, reason, and experience all leave us ultimately disappointed. If we want answers, we must turn to the Word of God.

Greg Gilbert does so in What Is the Gospel? Beginning with Paul's systematic presentation of the gospel in Romans and moving through the sermons in Acts, Gilbert argues that the central structure of the gospel consists of four main subjects: God, man, Christ, and a response. The book carefully examines each and then explores the effects the gospel can have in individuals, churches, and the world. Both Christian and non-Christian readers will gain a clearer understanding of the gospel in this valuable resource.

Arabic Translation Web Project

The Gospel as Center by Don Carson & Tim Keller

Goal: $10,000

This particular project will result in the translated content of this book being distributed via the internet and other digital means, in order to reach the Arabic-speaking world.

Language

Arabic is the primary language in North Africa and the Middle East and the fourth largest language in the world, spoken by 221 million people there and beyond. Much of the Arabic-speaking world has found itself embroiled in fierce and often hostile conflict recently. Often called "Arab Spring," these uprisings were sparked in most countries by poverty combined with rising prices, lack of job opportunities for young workers, and growing anger at personal enrichment among the politically elite. The uprisings began in Tunisia in December 2010, followed by mass protests across Iran, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Bahrain, Algeria and Morocco in January and February. Calls for freedom, justice, and hope for a better world were commonly heard among young protesters on the streets.

Regardless of any reforms these countries make, however, these hopes will not and cannot ultimately be met by a merely human government. Christ is the only one who can bring lasting peace to the unrest of millions of unbelieving souls in the Arab world, and access to that truth is essential. One massive opportunity for gospel penetration right now, especially for Arabs who do not speak English, is through the web, with the potential for millions to read, listen to, and study the truth about Jesus in their own language. (Ethnologue, BBC World News)

Arabic is considered an official language in the countries of Algeria, Bahrain, Chad, Comoros, Dijbouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somolia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, and Yemen.

It's time to reclaim the core of our beliefs...

Important aspects of Christianity are in danger of being muddied or lost as relativism takes root in our churches today. What was historically agreed upon is now readily questioned and the very essentials of the Christian faith are in jeopardy. It’s time to reclaim the core of our beliefs.

To that end, D. A. Carson, Tim Keller, Kevin DeYoung, and other influential leaders have created this volume to defend the traditional gospel and to strengthen the church.

The Gospel as Center will help you join in the movement—the movement dedicated to a Scripture-based reformation of ministry practices and the centrality of the gospel—and stand united under the conviction that what holds us together is worth fighting for.

Resource

"This little book is written for ordinary ministers who preach regularly to ordinary people in ordinary places... Most of us preach in gatherings that are smaller than we would wish and tougher than we might have hoped when we entered pastoral ministry... There is a voice on our shoulders who whispers as we prepare, and then as we preach, ‘Is it really worth it?" Christopher Ash tell us that it is worth it. More than that, he sets out a charter for preaching that draws from the very roots of the Old Testament - showing us that nothing in the world is more worthwhile - for preaching is God's strategy to rebuild a broken world. Here is a great review by Alistair Begg.

Language and Situation

Worldwide, about 500 million people speak Spanish. For about 400 million, it’s their native/first language. It’s the official language of 21 countries, with most Spanish-speakers located in Latin America, which has a population of over half a billion. (Mexico is the world’s largest Spanish-speaking nation.) Spanish has at least 3 million native speakers each in 44 countries, making it the fourth mostly geographically widely spoken language behind English (112 countries), French (60) and Arabic (57). (Source: Ethnologue). Spanish is one of the six official languages of the U.N., and is an official language of the European Union and Mercosur.

Cuba

The Cuban community has been a literal “island” in the sea of human relations and globalization. Ruled for half a century by Fidel Castro the island is now governed by his brother, Raúl. The void created in the people’s hearts by communism and isolationism has been filled with the desire for Christianity. Despite frequent acts of harassment against the Church, the Evangelical Church has grown rapidly and with fervor. Yet, nearly 80% of the population is still outside the reach of a local congregation. This growth has created an unprecedented need for trained pastors and Bible teachers. Training is limited by the lack of books, literature, and audio files for listening to solid preaching and teaching. (Operation World, This is Cuba, World Factbook)

The importation of books is not legal and, thus, this project is designed to create a Spanish translation placed in a digital file that can be printed within the country of Cuba. National church leaders will print books and distribute them to pastors and seminaries.

The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did he suffer so much? What has this to do with me? Finally, who sent him to his death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God’s Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer. The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause, but the meaning—God’s meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons.

It can be read for personal study or edification; used as a daily devotional, complete with reflection questions; or utilized by anyone who has a teaching ministry, to help small-group leaders understand and apply the text, and to give preachers helpful ways of connecting timeless Bible truths to today's world.

Language

After the holocaust perpetuated by the Khmer Rouge in 1975-79 there were so few Christians remaining in Cambodia that Christianity in the country essentially had to start over. Only two trained pastors remained to minister among the small number of surviving, underground Christians.

Since the 15th century, Buddhism has been the dominant religion in Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge sought to eliminate all religion, as well as the educated and those who had contact with the West. The regime killed most Christians and 90 percent of the Buddhist monks. This holocaust cost nearly two million lives, leaving behind deep physical and emotional scars.

For the next 15 years Cambodia remained closed to the Gospel. In 1990 the government legalized Christianity, allowing some freedom. At that point there were only 20 known churches attended by 2,000 Christians in the entire country. With increasing freedoms, people became more open to the Good News. Today, there are an estimated 240,196 Evangelicals. Many former Khmer Rouge have become believers. But the government still bans door-to-door evangelism and distribution of tracts.

Mature leadership for the churches is the greatest challenge. The loss of so many educated people in the Khmer Rouge slaughter, combined with the dysfunctional society, pushed many new Christians quickly into leadership before they were ready. Existing pastors’ lack of training, their need to provide for themselves and the overwhelming practical needs of the faithful are huge challenges. Leadership training courses for them are becoming more available. Yet there remains a desperate need for biblically solid resources to help them shepherd and build up their fledgling congregations.

Author Mark Dever seeks to help believers recognize the key characteristics of a healthy church: expositional preaching, biblical theology, and a right understanding of the gospel. Dever then calls us to develop those characteristics in our own churches. By following the example of New Testament authors and addressing church members from pastors to pew sitters, Dever challenges all believers to do their part in maintaining the local church. What Is a Healthy Church? offers timeless truths and practical principles to help each of us fulfill our God-given roles in the body of Christ.

Gospel In Life is an eight-week course on the gospel and how it is lived out in all of life— first in our hearts, then in community, and out into the world. Week 1 opens the course with the theme of the city: our home now, the world that is. Week 8 closes the course with the theme of the eternal city: our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between we will look at how the gospel changes our hearts (weeks 2 and 3), changes our community (weeks 4 and 5), and changes how we live in the world (weeks 6 and 7).

We will be partnering with a Christian publisher within China to produce 12,000 copies of this book. Additionally, they will release the accompanying video with translated dubbing online for free access.

China, the largest nation in the world, is home to the fastest growing church movement in Asia. While Chinese nationals have emigrated throughout the world, over a billion people still live in China and its provincial nations. With 1 in every 5 people in the world reading the Chinese language there is a need for strong, biblically sound Christian books, theological training materials, and discipleship materials.

The church, both registered and un-registered, is rapidly expanding and yet these pastors are in need of good study and training materials and Chinese doctrinal books that will help them lead and guide their congregations in times of difficulty and in times of great blessing. Without good materials, false teachings, error, and division have stunted the growth of the Church in China.

Language

The two most dominant Albanian-speaking regions (Albania and Kosova) have a common history. After a 600-year reign by the Ottoman Empire, Albania was officially an atheistic nation during the last half of the 20th century. Kosova was one of the provinces within the former nation of Yugoslavia. Both nations declared (by popular vote) religious freedom in the 1990s. Since then, evangelical churches and mission agencies have multiplied but growth has been slow with limited resources. The genocide in Kosova in 1998-99 sought to unravel the freedoms of the people, but other nations stood with the people of Kosova and for 10 years the region has been a UN protectorate.

Within the oversight of the UN and the Albanian population in Albania and elsewhere, the church is seeking to expand its witness, train leaders, and prepare pastors. At the same time, Muslim countries continue to pour in huge amounts of aid and influence. The Albanian churches see literature, Christian instruction, and theological education as key tools for growth and reaching out to the non-religious and nominal Muslim. (Operation World)

In February 2009, Don Carson presented a 14-part seminar entitled “The God Who Is There” at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. This series will serve the church well because it simultaneously evangelizes non-Christians and edifies Christians by explaining the Bible’s storyline in a non-reductionistic way. It’s one thing to know the Bible’s storyline, but it’s another to know one’s role in God’s ongoing story of redemption. “The God Who Is There” engages people at the worldview-level.

Spanish Resource: Book by Vaughan Roberts

God's Big Picture

Goal: $10,000

Jesús is a typical pastor in La Ceiba, Honduras. In fact, his story is all too common in the Third World. He is 35-years-old and, like most Hondurans, he completed only six years of public education. He has no formal theological training, but has been pastor or co-pastor of various churches for ten years. Read the rest of Jesús' story.

TGC International Outreach is engaged in Theological Famine Relief for the Global Church. By supporting this book project, you can partner with us to put Spanish-language resources into the hands of Latin American church leaders like Jesús.

Language

Resource

Sixty-six books written by forty people over nearly 2,000 years, in two languages and several different genres. A worldwide bestseller published in countless sizes and bindings, translations and languages. Sworn by in court, fought over by religious people, quoted in arguments. The Bible is clearly no ordinary book. How can you begin to read and understand it as a whole?

In this excellent overview, Vaughan Roberts gives you the big picture — showing how the different parts of the Bible fit together under the theme of the kingdom of God. He provides both the encouragement and the tools to help you read the Bible with confidence and understanding. And he points you to the Bible's supreme subject, Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers through him.

Ministry Events in Italy

This publishing project is being initiated in conjunction with ministry events in September of 2013. Collin Hansen of The Gospel Coalition  and Chris Castaldo of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College, will be teaching pastors and church-planters in several cities across Italy. Copies of this book will be distributed free to all who attend these events. Additionally, TGC International Outreach will put these into the hands of several networks of Gospel-centered church leaders.

Language and Situation

Italy is often associated with the Roman Empire and yet this beautiful country is diverse with people and ethnic groups from all over Europe. This is the nation that gave the world so much in terms of art, culture, science, math, politics, and the Christian faith. Roman Catholicism ceased to be the official state religion in 1984 and all other religions and faiths have equal freedom under the laws of Italy. Many of the immigrants came to Italy to enjoy this freedom of religion. Despite the freedom of religion the Protestant Church has experienced very little growth. Part of this is due to the oppressive hand of the Catholic Church but also the shortage of mature Christian leaders who have not been influenced by corruption, wealth, and attitudes of complacency.

A sign of hope for the church is the birth of an interdenominational missionary movement seeking the training of pastors and saturation church planting in Italy and surrounding nations. Despite Italian’s reluctance to read, most Christian groups indicate that literature will be of great importance in the spread of the Gospel, reaching students, and the proper training of church leaders. The newer, smaller congregations are making a vast impact across the countryside of Italy. (Alliance for SCP, Operation World, pg. 364-68)

Resource

In his fourth book in The Swans Are Not Silent series John Piper explores the lives of Athanasius, John Owen, and J. Gresham Machen—a bishop, a pastor, and the founder of a seminary.

Each of these men stood for the truth of the gospel in the face of intense opposition—all out of a deep love for Jesus and a desire for people to know him in his fullness. They took no joy in controversy for argument’s sake, and they were willing to suffer for the sake of guarding the sanctity of the gospel. Threats of harm, years of exile, the death of loved ones, opposition from friends and authorities, sickness and pain—none of these setbacks could keep these three from maintaining their efforts to further the gospel or quench their zeal for Jesus himself.

Portuguese-speaking Africa

Roman Catholicism was brought from the Portuguese colonial era and quickly mixed with traditional animistic African religions. This syncretism and ecumenism are very common and jeopardizes a biblical vision of the Gospel and the true church of Christ.

The Church in the African continent is growing significantly in number, however most leaders have little or no formal training. Eager to grow numerically, many have abandoned God's word as the guide, which directs us in how we build His church.

There has been minimal investment in the formation of sound leaders, and informal training is the most common.  Thus there are few men well prepared to teach sound biblical truth. This resource will help meet this need, and bring training they otherwise would not have access to.

Language

Many people do not realize that, in the African continent nearly 50 million people speak Portuguese from various countries such as Mozambique, Angola, and other countries. Most of this region has been severely affected by civil wars and plagued by poverty and misery.

The Portuguese language spread during the colonial era, most prominently to Brazil, Mozambique, Angola and Portugal. Worldwide, there are approximately 178 million first language Portuguese speakers.

Resource

In collaboration with 9Marks ministries, Editora FIEL is creating a Portuguese-language church leaders training curriculum. We will donate these resources to 300 key seminaries, bible schools, libraries and churches in Portuguese-speaking countries located in southern Africa.

This kit will contain the following:

  • 28 hours of video Theological Courses on 8 DVDs.
  • Book, 9Marks of a Healthy Church
  • 9Marks Study Guide

The video curriculum is filmed with Portuguese translation taught by Mark Dever, Greg Gilbert, Jonathan Leeman, Mike McKinley, as well as Augustus Nicodemus and other Portuguese speaking Christian leaders. These institutions will be allowed to copy and distribute print resources. In addition to this, key schools will be chosen to offer the course with a diploma giving recognition to the student's work, as well as credit, in some well known Brazilian partner seminaries. Our prayer is that hundreds of leaders will be trained through this curriculum.

FIEL ministries has been working in African nations through conferences, literature distribution and its Adopt-a-Pastor project for over ten years, and has seen much fruit. We hope that this initiative which reaches these pastors and seminaries, both formal and informal, will provide the needed training that has the potential to impact the future generation of pastors and teachers in the church of Africa.

Editora FIEL's mission is to spread among Portuguese-speaking peoples worldwide the truths of biblical Christianity, the contours of which have been shaped by the doctrines of sovereign grace, which gave birth to the Reformation and center upon the glorious redeeming work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the only Mediator between God and man.

9Marks is a ministry dedicated to equipping church leaders with a biblical vision and practical resources. Our goal is simple: churches that display the glory of God.

Language and Situation

Until 1917, Russian was the sole official language of the Russian Empire. It is primarily spoken in Russia and the other countries that once made up the USSR. During the Soviet period, government policy toward the languages of the various ethnic groups fluctuated. Though each of the constituent republics had its own official language, the unifying role was reserved for Russian.

Russia is the largest country in the world and spans nine time zones. When the U.S.S.R. crumbled, new nations were born—most of them seeking meaning to life, answers to global questions, struggle for power, and the role of government and religion. Despite the hopes for a new nation, they have experienced a high rate of unemployment and economic instability.

While the new constitution of Russia permits the freedom of religion, the Russian Orthodox Church still enjoys a comfortable role in guiding policy on churches, church planting, and missionaries often opposing evangelicals. There has been minimal investment in formal biblical training and seminaries. Most teaching still remains informal and centered around the largest cities—leaving many pastors far from the training, the resources, and the fellowship they need to grow spiritually. There is a strong call for pastoral training materials in the Russian language.

Is the cross truly the center of your ministry?

Today we commonly see images of the cross adorning churches, dangling from necklaces, and gleaming from lapels. Yet the image that is so sanitized for us today was grotesque and abhorrent to those living in the first century. It was a symbol of evil, torture, and shame. It is this realistic and horrifying view of the cross that should call us to Christian ministry and compel us to share the Good News of Christ's triumph over death.

Through his exposition of 1 Corinthians, D. A. Carson presents a comprehensive view of what the death of Christ means in preaching and ministering to God's people. He confronts the issues of factionalism, servant-leadership, shaping "world" Christians, and the source of knowledge in order to help Christian leaders learn principles for dynamic, cross-centered worship.

Situation
The people of India who speak Telugu share a language that dates back to the 14th Century B.C. Telugu is the third most-spoken language in India and is mainly spoken in southeast India along the coastline of the Bay of Bengal. What was once considered the language of the elite caste, Telugu is now a common language among the people through radio, television, and movies. This area is also home to the greatest concentra-tion of Islamic workers and conversions to Islam.

Nearly 40% of the population within each of the major cities of this region are Muslim, by faith. With the pressure of anti-conversion laws and the presence of Islam, the official percentage of Christians has declined among Telugu speakers in India and yet in the last decade there is a resurgence of evangelism (in spite of the persecution), church planting in over 26,000 villages, and the renewed work of indigenous missionaries. Still, most missionaries and pastors lack adequate training and over 50% of the region completely lacks a Christian presence. Women run most new Internet cafés and, thus, both women and men have access to online resources, books, and materials. Philadelphia Missions is a Christian ministry dedicated to furthering the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the unreached people groups of India. This is done by sharing the good news of salvation to those who have not yet come to faith. Our primary task is evangelizing, discipling, and planting churches. In the last seven years, Philadelphia Missions has reached several people groups establishing churches among them. At present there are 27 full-time church planters working together for this cause.

It’s so easy to forget what the Christian faith is all about. We struggle so much, work so hard, and fail so often that we frequently sense something in the equation of life must be missing. Tullian Tchividjian argues that what we are missing is the gospel—a fuller, more powerful understanding of Jesus and what his finished work means for everyday life.

During a year of great turmoil, Pastor Tchividjian discovered the power of the gospel in his own life. Sharing his story of how Jesus became more real to him, Tchividjian delves deeply into the fundamentals of the faith, explaining the implications of Christ’s sufficiency—a revelation that sets us free and keeps us anchored through life’s storms.

Ultimately, Tchividjian reminds us that Jesus is the whole of the equation as he boldly proclaims that Jesus plus nothing really is everything.

The term “born again” is a precious term in the history of the Church. In his book, Finally Alive, John Piper takes the reader through a comprehensive study of Scripture and unveils what Jesus meant when He said, “You must be born again.” This book is one of the most lucid and thorough studies ever written for the believer in understanding the process from election, to “dead in our sins,” to new life and justification, and the process of sanctification. God is the great Doer of new birth and it is He that gives us eternal life!

We admire these men for their greatness, but the truth is Augustine grappled with sexual passions. Martin Luther struggled to control his tongue. John Calvin fought the battle of faith with worldly weapons.

Yet each man will always be remembered for the messages he declared-messages that still resound today. John Piper explores each of these men's lives, integrating Augustine's delight in God with Luther's emphasis on the Word and Calvin's exposition of Scripture. Through their strengths and struggles we can learn how to live better today. When we consider their lives, we behold the glory and majesty of God and find power to overcome our weaknesses.

The church, both registered and un-registered, is rapidly expanding and yet these pastors are in need of good study and training materials and Chinese doctrinal books that will help them lead and guide their congregations in times of difficulty and in times of great blessing. According to Warren Wiersbe, The Supremacy of God in Preaching "'calls us back to a biblical standard for preaching, a standard exemplified by many of the pulpit giants of the past, especially Jonathan Edwards and Charles Spurgeon." Piper focuses his study on the example of Jonathan Edwards as an illustration of a leader who submitted to God.

Filling Up the Afflictions of Christ

Goal: FUNDED - Thank you for your support.

Jesus' words in John 12 are sobering: unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it will bear little fruit. The history of Christianity's expansion proves that God's strategy for reaching unreached peoples with the gospel includes the sufferings of his frontline heralds-the missionaries who willingly die a thousand daily deaths to advance God's kingdom.

Pastor John Piper's latest addition to The Swans Are Not Silent series focuses on this flesh-and-blood reality in the lives of William Tyndale, Adoniram Judson, and John Paton. The price they paid to translate the Word of God, to pave the way for missionary mobilization around the world, and to lead the hostile to Christ was great. Yet their stories show in triplicate how the gospel advances not only through the faithful proclamation of the truth but through representing the afflictions of Christ in our sufferings.

Preaching the Cross

Proclaiming the gospel is without a doubt the most important task of pastoral ministry, yet often other, seemingly more urgent activities obscure it. From time to time all pastors and preachers need to be reminded of the primacy of the gospel.

Preaching the Cross does just this. It is a call to expository, gospel-centered preaching as the center of pastoral ministry. This volume showcases an unprecedented combination of pastors representing a variety of evangelical traditions. Though they differ on some secondary points of church practice, they all enthusiastically celebrate the centrality of the cross of Christ-keeping the main thing the main thing. That message every reader can take away from this book and adopt in his pastoral ministry.

Authors Mark Dever, J. Ligon Ducan III, R. Albert Mohler Jr., and C. J. Mahaney are joined by colleagues John MacArthur, John Piper, and R. C. Sproul in calling pastors to pursue gospel-saturated, preaching-centered ministries.

Proclaiming a Cross-centered Theology

Loving, teaching, and rightly dividing the Word of God is every pastor's privilege and responsibility. If a pastor understands what the Word says about God, man, and the curse, about Christ and his substitutionary atonement, and about the call to repentance and sacrifice, he will develop and preach a sound theology. And sound theology is, in the words of J. Ligon Duncan, essential to faithful pastoral ministry.

Proclaiming a theology that is centered on Christ's atonement is especially critical, for by this atonement, Christians have been brought from death to life, and by it a church lives or dies. In this penetrating sequel to Preaching the Cross, John Piper, R. C. Sproul, John MacArthur, and Thabiti Anyabwile join authors Mark Dever, Ligon Duncan, C. J. Mahaney, and Albert Mohler in exploring the church's need for faithful proclamation and calling pastors and churches to cross-centered, scripturally saturated thinking.

Fifty Reasons Christ Came to Die

The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did he suffer so much? What has this to do with me? Finally, who sent him to his death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God’s Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer. The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause, but the meaning—God’s meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons.

The Dangerous Duty of Delight

Resource

Each of us has a restlessness, an inconsolable longing within. Some try to satisfy it with scenic vacations, creative accomplishments, huge cinematic productions, sexual exploits, sports extravaganzas, drugs, ascetic rigors, managerial excellence, and more. Yet our longing remains. Why? John Piper turns your heart toward the one true Object of human desire: God. He shows how fulfilling your duty to delight in Him can change your attitude toward worship, toward marriage, toward material goods, toward your very mission and purpose on earth.  Jesus is not safe, but He is all satisfying!

Language

Worldwide about 300 million speak French.  For 110 million it is their first language.  Europe has about 75 million French speakers. During the 20th century, France laid claim to much of west Africa, colonized the people groups, and taught French as a major social language. French is still taught in most schools of western Africa. The influx of Islamic rule and practices has led to the opposition of Christianity and the church. The major growth of Frenchspeaking Christians is being seen in Africa, and these men and women have a heart for all parts of the French-speaking world. Many are calling for resources in literature, audio sermons, and DVDs to regain many of their values. (BEM, Operation World, pg. 254-59)

Who Am I? by Jerry Bridges

Goal: $5,644

100% Raised

Resource

Best-selling author Jerry Bridges (The Pursuit of Holiness, The Discipline of Grace, The Bookends of the Christian Life, and many other books) asks perhaps the most fundamental question of existence: “Who am I?” He then turns to Scripture to unpack for the Christian eight clear, interlocking, illuminating answers: I Am a Creature / I Am in Christ / I Am Justified / I Am an Adopted Son of God / I Am a New Creation / I Am a Saint / I Am a Servant of Jesus Christ / I Am Not Yet Perfect. A direct, honest presentation of biblical truth, and all new material from Jerry Bridges, Who Am I? demonstrates for believers that they can and should rightfully claim for themselves an unshakeable, lifelong, personal foundation of confidence in one thing and one thing alone: the gospel of a victorious, resurrected Savior.

Spanish Resource for Cuba: Book by John Piper

Finally Alive

Goal: $5,000 - FUNDING COMPLETE

100% Raised

Resource

The term “born again” is a precious term in the history of the Church. In his book, Finally Alive, John Piper takes the reader through a comprehensive study of Scripture and unveils what Jesus meant when He said, “You must be born again.” This book is one of the most lucid and thorough studies ever written for the believer in understanding the process from election, to “dead in our sins,” to new life and justification, and the process of sanctification. God is the great Doer of new birth and it is He that gives us eternal life!

Language and Situation

The Cuban community has been a literal “island” in the sea of human relations and globalization. Ruled for half a century by Fidel Castro the island is now governed by his brother, Raúl. The void created in the people’s heart by communism and isolationism has been filled with the desire for Christianity.

Resource

Author Ajith Fernando believes that much ministry failure results from neglect of the basics of the faith. Too often today's church is riveted on ministry technique to the neglect of leadership lifestyle.

In this book, Fernando identifies the foundational elements that allow you to be both effective and joyful in your service. He shows from Jesus' own ministry that relating to the people you minister to, retreating from busyness to prayer, being affirmed and empowered by God, discipling younger leaders, and gaining strength from God's Word must be at the heart of your ministry.

Rich in Scripture and full of stories from Fernando's own years of ministry, this book will help men and women commit themselves afresh to those vital basics of ministry that make for long-term service that is both fruitful and joyful.

What Is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert

Goal: $6,100

100% Raised

Resource

'What is the gospel?
