The beards are back for the fourth season of cable TV's highest rated reality show. Here are nine more things you should know about the faith of the Robertson clan (see also the original 9 things post).

1. Why Duck Dynasty matters: Poised to be the biggest cable show of all time, Duck Dynasty is the highest rated show on TV to consistently portray a family that is unapologetic about their Christian faith and their affection for one another. The pop culture phenomenon is making it harder for television executives to ignore the demand for shows that portray families who put God first in their lives.

2. Jase and Missy Robertson on the Biblical view of marriage.

3. Phil Robertson on evangelism.

4. Phil Robertson on the sanctity of life: "You have a God-given right to live, in all places, inside your mother."

5. Alan Robertson, the beardless eldest son, recently joined the show after being off-camera for the first three seasons. He tells why he feels on why the family is doing the show now:
I really feel like God had prepared us for such a moment as this. And when America needs some family to say, 'Hey, we can make mistakes, you know, we can come from nothing -- we can have all these things now, but ultimately none of it matters except that we're saved, and we're going to be in heaven with Christ forever.'

6. Si Robertson on believing in the resurrection of the dead.

7. Kay Robertson on family values: "God is the reason for our success. Family values are not attainable without a faith in and relationship with God."

8. Jace Robertson on faith and Genesis 1:1.

9. Lisa Robertson, Alan's wife, on taking their message beyond the physical congregation:
To have a great church is good. But there is people out there that's not ever going to darken the doors that we have here. And they may not ever darken the doors of any church building.

And so, if we can give them a little taste of Christianity, a little taste of God, but in a fun way, to tell them that just because you're a Christian doesn't mean that you can't have loads of fun and laugh all the time and just enjoy what God's given you.

I like the DD, but it's *entertainment* not church or even a para church ministry. I think it's especially neat--baptism beliefs (whatever they are-are)and whatnot aside--that these folks seem to actually represent the true God of scripture..while making duck calls, hunting, playing and family-ing. On secular tv. Not something you see these days. Maybe not perfectly but: this is the Arts & Entertainment channel; on secular tv; showcasing sinners, like us.

So it occurs to me..

After all the fallout the show seems to have generated among believers, if the serious consideration of its *source* has been lost on many..? Some are having a kinnip because of the Robertson's denominational affiliation and what that may or may not mean within the bounds of biblical orthodoxy; some over how the Gospel is or is not "presented"...presumed eschatological beliefs they may hold to and whatever else people can go on about. This is a television SHOW. Yes these are men who share their faith publicly, it's all over the youtube. Yes they have a book deal with a Christian publication, etc... Have they been given more evangelical mileage with which to travel than they should have, I wonder? Seems they were doing fine in their own circles of Gospel influence.

Anyhoo..

It appears we have assimilated Duck Dynasty into the evangelical "world" and not the other way around. With that it seems entirely on us, not them, to move forward in our own respective races with help from our own local Body and pastors and be continuing in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel;. Leave the entertainment to the DD boys and enjoy the show for what it is (if that's your thing): Secular TV, with an extra heaping helping of grace to be a beacon in a dark world. But don't make the Dynasty more than it is.

Blessings all ~

Yep, old post. Anyway, it's not particularly important, and I certainly wasn't intentionally trying to irritate anyone. Thanks for your gracious words.

As for the "possible" affiliation with CofC - they are absolutely without doubt CofC folks. Phil's actually an elder (I can't describe how cool that would be, at least to me).

This will sound crazy, but grace is tough to handle if you've never been taught grace. People can find a degree of comfort in legalism - a problem certainly not confined to the CofC. You tick these 46 boxes and go to heaven. Anyway, that's thankfully changing with our tradition's younger generation. Which is great.

Thanks again!

I LOVE these guys! I believe they are Church of Christ attenders in Lousiana but what genuine people! Sharing Christ's love and giving Him the Glory! We need more people like them in the industry!

I believe that there is room within orthodoxy for some eschatological differences.

No idea. But seeing as I'm a member of a Church of Christ, and I know something of Reformed Theology (I'll wait while you climb back in your chair)...

This isn't directed at you, but the last '9 things' DD post comments section really was depressing. It turned quickly into a nasty little pile on for DD and Church of Christ folks. I expected better.

I really value this site, Challies, all of them. Reformed folks have a wonderful perspective, and we share many ancestors in the Reformation, even if we'd now argue over specific issues. But I don't troll CofC sites (if there are any) to trash Reformed folks. I would have hoped some would extend the same courtesy.

All right, everybody. Let's get rolling with the YEAH BUT I HEARD THEY BELIEVE THIS!!!! comments.

Great guys, but their eschatology is messed up. We are not going to be in heaven with Jesus forever. We get to be with Jesus on the New Earth forever.

I will curious to see in the coming years if this show is still on the air, how things will go if the issue of gay marriage is ever broached. How will they handle the subject and how will the network handle their response to the subject.

DMP

August 26, 2013 at 08:25 PM

Beverly more than likely the a question about the issue will be addressed to a family member in another venue/context on camera without warning outside of the confines of the show, and whatever the response it will be it will be controversial.

DMP, I agree with your statement. I did see a show this last season where Mrs. K set up a photo shoot and the photographer was clearly a homosexual. Phil's response was hilarious! Not sure what their stance on the NON Biblical, "Politically Correct" gay marriage subject would be but, I would like to think they would keep to the simple things of life and family and avoid such topics, at least as long as they can!

Morgan, I simply stated their possible affiliation with C of C, no trash or disrespect. Simply stated, they are great guys that love Jesus. Simply put, any Christ follower should represent as well as they do!

I guess I missed the "nasty" comments about the DD. Was that in a old post?

I think it is awesome that you are here on a "reformed" site! My C of C friends are not as open to being informed as you! They are very closed off to getting understanding or wisdom about Grace based vs works based or Arminian Theology.

They most likely know nothing of Reformed Theology, but they are as genuine and faithful as any I know. I love these guys.
