The Gospel Coalition

A charitable and engaging discussion between Wayne Grudem and Ian Hamilton of Cambridge Presbyterian Church.  The discussion took place at the 2010 Evangelical Ministry Assembly meeting in 2010. I hope it edifies you. (HT: Ref21)

Wayne lost me on this one...I am disappointed in him...and he's been such an influence.

Excellent discussion,

The enormous value of this dialogue is the spirit in which both of these men engaged. The Elephant room in comparison, which seems to be bearing a different kind of fruit, models for us a lack of preparation essential for candid differences and productive conclusions essential for real hopeful unity. While I am sympathetic to Gruden, Ian truly represented to me the safeguard of scriptures highview and sufficiency, thus avoiding the problematic elements that accompany the loose terminology of prophets and prophecy advocated by Gruden. Furthermore, because we have so much confusion and choas in the charasmatic camp and the tendencies for fleshly exaltations, not to mention an obscuring of the glory of Christ and the centrality of the gospel, serious caution is well advised.

Thanks for posting this. Just to let you know, EMA stands for Evangelical Ministry Assembly rather than Evangelical Ministers' Association. It's an annual conference run by the Proclamation Trust, a fantastic organisation promoting excellence in preaching in UK churches through training and resources. You can find out more about them at proctrust.org.uk Thanks!

This is a great discussion. It was very edifying and really helped to hear the differing views. Having read Grudem's view of this previously, I was surprised at how much more I agree with him after hearing him discus the particulars. Maybe that was a lax reading on my part, nonetheless, very helpful and edifying!
