The Gospel Coalition

At the SBC yesterday, we presented a video on The Gospel Project that summarizes the biblical storyline in 3 minutes using famous art.

I don't use the description "must-see" very often, but this is one of those rare occasions when I think you should take a few minutes to watch (and then share). The video team did an outstanding job putting this together, and I'm excited to see a compelling, artistic account of the Bible's grand storyline and our mission as gospel story-tellers.

Well done video, but I was a little creeped out by the strong emphasis on portraying God as "story-teller." Not only is it extra-biblical (God has given himself plenty of other titles), but it seems to turn the entire universe into some grand novel that God simply wanted to write, not a mechanism to bring man into relationship with God. Moreover, we are not sent as "story-tellers;" proclaimers of the Gospel, yes (and Gospel does mean "good news" but that only obscurely means a grand tale, it is more like an announcement: Jesus is Lord!), but we are more often called ambassadors, bringers of reconciliation, workers in an agricultural harvest.

For a curriculum that promises deeper theological study and Christ-centered application (and I am confident it will be good curriculum), I hoped for marketing that was closer to the biblical language given to us that could have been just as captivating.
