At the April 2021 Board meeting of The Gospel Coalition, Juan Sánchez was elected to serve as the new chairman, a position occupied for the last four years by Kevin DeYoung.
Sánchez is the senior pastor of High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, and serves as a Council member of The Gospel Coalition and Coalicion por el Evangelio. He is the author of Seven Dangers Facing Your Church and, most recently, The Leadership Formula: Develop the Next Generation of Leaders in the Church. He formerly served as president of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. He and his wife, Jeanine, have five children.
“I couldn’t be more excited for TGC as Juan steps into this role,” TGC President Julius Kim said. “He has a strong pastoral heart, and I know will cultivate a tone of humility, integrity, and unity among TGC’s Board. We will greatly benefit from his Board leadership as we press on in our calling to support the church in making disciples of all nations, by providing gospel-centered resources that are trusted and timely, winsome and wise.”
After leading TGC’s Board through a crucial period that included the organization’s first presidential transition, DeYoung will step back from serving on the Board but will remain a Council member. Philip Ryken, president of Wheaton College and a TGC Council member, will join the Board as a new member.
TGC’s Board is a smaller subset of the 38-member Council, a group of mostly pastors who provide leadership and vision for the work of The Gospel Coalition. The Board meets several times each year to provide institutional governance and missional direction to the ministry of The Gospel Coalition. Current TGC Board members include chairman Juan Sánchez, TGC cofounder Tim Keller, K. Edward Copeland, Ligon Duncan, Philip Ryken, Colin Smith, Darryl Williamson, and John Yates.
Since its founding by Don Carson and Tim Keller in 2005, TGC has grown to become one of the world’s largest Christian websites and producers of multimedia resources—including articles, podcasts, videos, courses, books, events, training, and more.

We need one another. Yet we don’t always know how to develop deep relationships to help us grow in the Christian life. Younger believers benefit from the guidance and wisdom of more mature saints as their faith deepens. But too often, potential mentors lack clarity and training on how to engage in discipling those they can influence.
Whether you’re longing to find a spiritual mentor or hoping to serve as a guide for someone else, we have a FREE resource to encourage and equip you. In Growing Together: Taking Mentoring Beyond Small Talk and Prayer Requests, Melissa Kruger, TGC’s vice president of discipleship programming, offers encouraging lessons to guide conversations that promote spiritual growth in both the mentee and mentor.
