Don’t Take Intimate Friendship with Jesus for Granted

I was in my prime when God’s intimate friendship blessed my house” (Job 29:4).

Lord Jesus, thank you for the gift of another day. This is the Tuesday you have made; and we want to be glad and rejoice in it—no matter our age, stage, or circumstances. Being “in our prime” has more to do with enjoying intimate friendship with you than our age, wrinkles, “abs,” and blood work. You are the one friend we have who loves us at all times—at our best, worst, and in between.

And as the best friend imaginable, we thank you for giving us other friends with whom to share intimate friendship with you. Indeed, blessed is she/he who is walking with a group of grace-loving friends—a Gospel-posse for whom boasting in you is the main “bragging” that goes on.

Amigos and Amigas who share life in Christ and life on mission—savoring the joys and accepting the heartaches of life between your resurrection and return. Resting in your love, repenting and laughing with equal ease, giving each other more listening than fixing, more encouragement than suggestions… no portfolio, estate, or inheritance is of greater value.

Oh Jesus, thank you for befriending us in the Gospel. Thank you for intimate friendship with you and with our heart-mates. It’s still stunning, centering, and freeing to hear you say to us, “I no longer call you servants; I call you friends” (John 15:15). We are humbled. We are glad. Hallelujah, we are yours. So Very Amen.
