“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Col. 3:15

Lord Jesus, this little verse is a major truth. Today, like every day, we will be wooed, won, and ruled by someone or something. It’s impossible to live without a heart-boss. We want that to be you and your all-circumstance transcending peace. What is your temporal competition?

Satan loves to condemn us and envy lurks to discontent us. Good concerns morph into paralyzing fears, and normal disappointments mutate into big anger. Our flesh gets easily irritated and our imagination runs to illusions. Old regrets come back to haunt us, and new fantasies emerge to seduce us. The line of wanna-be heart-bosses will not cease till we’re in heaven.

So with palms up, we gladly surrender our hearts to you and your peace as our sovereign, king, and boss on this September Tuesday. Jesus, only you are the Prince of Peace. Everything else is a carpet-bagger of snake oil—a late night TV ad overpromising and underdelivering—a hologram of a great feast, offering cardboard bread and bitter water. May your peace work as a centering and settling power in our hearts today—in our “testy” relationships and unfinished stories … in this angry culture and our unknown future … in our known weaknesses and heart-numbing successes.

And when we forfeit, forsake, or forget you and the peace only you give—reel our hearts back in quickly and firmly. We are grateful you are a powerful Lord, not a distant cheerleader. Thank you, Jesus. So Very Amen.
