“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Eph. 3:17-19
Lord Jesus, we’ve never been more grateful for your first Advent and more eager for your second Advent. But while we multiply and intensify our cry, “How Long O Lord?”, we also remember your promise to come to us through the work of the Holy Spirit. We aren’t just holding on; we are being held by you, Jesus—sealed and indwelt by the Spirit, the firstfruits and guarantee of everything to come.
What do our often weary, wandering hearts need most before your second Advent, Jesus? We need many “little “a” advents”—you coming to us in fresh outpourings, visitations, and the renewing power of the Spirit. You are returning to carry your beloved bride across the threshold into the new heaven and new earth; not merely to help your beleaguered church “cross the finish line.” So, we ask you to answer (even over-answer) what Paul prayed for fellow believers in Ephesians 3:17-19.
By the Gospel (Hallelujah!) we’re already rooted and established in your love. But by the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus overwhelm us with a fresh experience of your beauty, magnificence, and your multidimensional love. Restore to us the joy of our salvation, the love we had for you at first, and the freedom for which you set us free. Jesus, fill us with the Holy Spirit; fill us with yourself. So Very Amen.
