Jesus, “is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven” (Heb. 1:3…) “with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.” (1 Pet. 3:22)… “and since that time he (Jesus) waits for his enemies to be made his footstool” (Heb. 10:13).
Lord Jesus, our hearts continue to ache and our thoughts race. Our bodies are “keeping score”—running up a big “tab,” showing the cost of living in a world of trauma, stress, and trouble. This means we are living in the same scenario and story and as our brothers and sisters who saw you ascend into heaven, 40 days after your resurrection (Acts 1:1-11).
It also means we are living by the same Gospel, with the same hope, for the same glorious end—the Day when your fullness fills all things (Eph. 4:10), the Day when your glory and lovingkindness will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea (Isa. 11:9; Psalm 33:5).
“Weary in well doing” (Gal. 6:9-10), and tired of waiting? You bet. At times doubtful, fret-full, and angry? Jesus, you know we are. But though we don’t know the exact Date on the calendar of grace when all things will be new, right, and beautiful…
We do affirm and rest in these things. (Note the verses above.) You are God. You sustain everything. You made full purification for our sins. You are enthroned. Angels, authorities, and all powers all bow to you. Your enemies are being made your footstool. You love us. You are coming back for us. It is enough. So Very Amen.
