Metaphor for Ministers

What if a preacher struggled with feelings of inadequacy to preach God’s holy Word? What if someone could come up with a heartening picture of how God by his grace can use even this preacher’s inadequate words? What if this picture could show him how beautiful is the preaching when God’s true Word shines through his proclamation?

And what if he could be reminded that his humble living of God’s Word makes the picture bright? And more, what if he could begin to see this picture as one part of a larger, glorious work—-the only one that lasts? Well, then, we might end up with something like the 17th-century poem “The Windows” by Welsh-born Anglican priest George Herbert.
